2006 CLS55 AMG Sold 2010 E550 Coupe totaled '13 SL550 current and loving it!
Found a pretty perfect car but.....

....The private dealer will not give out the VIN over the phone and will not allow me to take the car to a dealer to have a PPI done. He said I could bring someone to the car but that is it. Sounds pretty shady to me...is that normal? It is an '05 white loaded pano, keyless go, vent seats 50k miles, a little higher than I wanted but, asking $36k which I am paying cash so that is too high.
Can someone tell me how big the gap should be between the hood and the headlights? This car seems to have a slightly larger than normal gap and it seems the front bumper does not have an even gap from the front tire to where it comes up to the hood. It is crazy tight close to the tire and it seems to open up a bit as it comes up to the hood. Could just be the pics but after speaking with him and he won't allow a dealer to do the PPI makes me wonder. Should I not bother or take a closer look?

Just walk away.
It "sounds pretty shady" for a very good reason.

+1 if there is nothing wrong with the car, then why are they afraid to have you take it to get checked by a body shop or at least by a Mercedes dealership? Just because they allow you to have someone come look at it at their place doesn't mean the car is good. Sometimes the car needs to be put on a lift or examined by certain equipment that cannot be carried to where the car is located.

Walk away.....

Let me guess...its a white 05 located in NJ??? That car has been selling for about 3 months or more.... The simple fact that he won't let you take it to any other dealer for inspection is more than enough for you to walk away....the guy is not a polite person neither, I would stay away if I were you.

06 E55 Blaq on Blaq
I drove all the way to Germain MB in Columbus, OH to get mine and before dropping any cash or signing any papers, since their service dept. was closed by the time the wife and I got there, they not only allowed us to take it to another MB dealer/ shop of our choosing, they encouraged it. Walk away from this one my friend.

You will be making a huge mistake if you even consider this car from this dealer.

The only reason the guy won't let you have it PPI'd or give you the VIN is because he's hiding something. He probably thinks by "getting you in there" he's going to change your mind and convince you to buy the car without a PPI or VIN check.

Don't just walk away, run away, fast.

Depends on the season
if its the 05 in jersey in east brunswick...its a lemon buyback. I already carfaxed it and the guy John that owns it is a crook. My friend bought a car from him and got screwed royally. Ill give you his last name and the name of the shop if you want through PM and you can google his name and nothing good is written about him anywhere.

On a side note....I know where theres a grey E55 with pano, rear sunscreen, and 20s at the dealer I bought mine from. Nice looking car is you like silver/gray.

PM me if you want the info

I called him to get the carfax from him and he made up some crappy excuse on how he doesnt do that over the phone cause he got burned emailing a carfax to someone once.

So I payed the 40 to have unlimited carfaxes for the month. When I ran his...first line said WARNING: LEMON BUYBACK. NO WARRANTY OFFERED and does not qualify for carfax buyback guarantee.

I even googled the vin number and the first site that popped up said lemon buyback lol

Just as a side note.
Here in the Trenton/Hamilton/Princeton area,
2005 S55 AMG BL on BL with 55K on it sold for 29,500 from the new BMW dealership here. I know the guy who bought it.
Keep Looking

You guys see what I mean with the gap between the hood and headlights and the gap from the front tire to the headlights? The passenger side looks a bit worse. It is really loaded up with options, what a shame....
