CLS55 vs E55....
What are some pros and cons of each? Why did you choose one over the other? Modding ability the same? not that I am going to go crazy. Can you get wider rims/tires on the CLS? I think I might be considering either at this point and would like to know others reasoning for choosing one over the other. Is the CLS much bigger/boatish compared to the E? I am not looking for a boat and want something to still handle decently and not feel huge.

This are many threads with this showdown spoken about before. To be brief, the CLS has less space in the trunk, less rear legroom and seats 4. The E55 has more of that. The CLS however according to many (subjective) looks way better than the E55. For me it's all about preference and what you want. The CLS does turn many many heads and if you love it's looks then it seems to be the choice. Some though love the more low key theme of the E55 that passes like a regular "old man's" E Class on the side but blows the doors off of many things.

Now if you said an M5 handles better then I would agree. Average M5 driver is better than a good E55 driver. That car truly handles better than the E55 as well as the CLS55.

I was, ok, am still smitten by the CLS looks but driving one I felt too limited for visibility + the back seat is very limited room so I'm looking for an E55.

CLS55 is rarer, since only maid in 2006. Handles better? Hmmmm, same components, plus the CLS has more overhang up front so i dunno how that is even possible. In short, get in the CLS. If you like the outside and the snugly interior, then it is for you. Performance will be driver dependent.
I would go CLS if I had it to do again simply because I can fit wider tires.

After looking into it a little further, it looks like the CLS55 is out of my range. Don't want to spend more than mid 30's and they seem to be low to mid 40's. Sorry to have asked the question if it had been covered numerous times. It had just popped into my head and I posted without searching.

The same driver gets in to both cars and drives a course. Chances are that driver will go faster in the CLS55, right? Therefore, all things being equal, the CLS would be the better handling car.
I mean really, Michael Schumacher could probably beat me in a Toyota Corolla around a track.

2005 E55, 2004 E55(sold), 2001 Viper GTS, 2006 Viper VOI9, 1994 ZR-1 Corvette 2009 Viper ACR,
The E55 is faster... I've driven both cars many times...
HOWEVER, I OWN an E55.. And will agree, the CLS wins in the looks department.
