09 command unit

Can you switch your older command unit with the new 09 unit and have all functions work. Is it plug and play

Unfortunately not. It appears to be very complicated and very expensive. Some people said around $6k while others said $4k I would wait a few more months and I bet these prices will drop a bit.

Yes you can.

I believe the only functionality that you lose is the pop out CD changer, but the unit has a built in CD changer if I'm not mistaken.

In the thread I posted, there is a link to a thread created by a user who has done the install with success and a lot of questions are answered there. I plan do the install myself and I'll gladly post up results, I'm just a little tight with money these days.

Mo, are you talking about 2010 or 2009? You can get a unit for $1k, I am not sure what would take another $3 grand to install it

The unit comes with a 6-Disc DVD changer, so you won't miss the CD changer at all.... I've spoken to the person you who did the installation and he told me it is very involved. He said he would not even recommend it for experienced users And it seems like price maybe even more than $5k

I'm talking about 2009 COMMAND available in the E/CLS63 (NTG 2.5)

$2,000 For HD Radio Antenna (Sat)
$2,000 For 2009 COMMAND (copy/fake ones are being sold for $700 while authentic ones are being sold for $2k on e-bay.... MSRP is just under $4k)
$1,500 For New HK Amp (you maybe able to get this for $700)
$400 For cables, connectors, harnesses, and other misc items.
$1000 For installation (if you can't' do it yourself of course).

As you can see, this can get very involved

I think the install is involving, but shouldn't be much more involving than YM's iPod install... I think I could do that on my own.

My angle on this is, I want to somehow upgrade the stereo in the car, without losing the factory look. I know that aftermarket units can be installed with a professional look but I prefer the stock look as to not draw attention to my car with my untinted windows.

MB_Forever: What do you know about fakes? I have seen some being sold from overseas vendors through eBay in used condition for around $1100 or so, but it never occured to me that someone could counterfit a whole COMAND unit. How is this possible??
