Thanks for the replies. Do you think a WAGON in black loses its line and begins to looks like a larger Audi? I've eliminated the 'in between' colors such as Techtite, Platinum Blue, and Gray because those colors are a compromise so to speak. Selecting a car color isn't as simple as selecting a pair of jeans or shoes for a night out on the town. Yes, I'm willing to admit I have Metro tendencies

a Rivera...via a Custom 24, Strat and Les Paul
I have black:
minuses:
definitely a PITA to keep clean (and my wife barely drives it).
Have to clay, compound etc at least 2x's a year to keep the swirls out (even with microfiber towels)
oven in the summer
water drops show up miraculously after ever wash (unless you get every crevice in the molding or have a pro do it for you).
Every rock chip, pollen molecule, rain drop, dog fur, dust speck well... you get the idea
If you have any sort of O.C.D component to your personality, there will be days that you wash it, get caught in a rain storm, and then wash it the next day which leads to. . .
Your neighbors will make fun you because you're always washing your car (mine just shake their head now)
Looks like S*&T when dirty.
Pluses:
Looks absolutely sick when clean (For this I say run a search for "AMGFAN" "PRODIGYMB" "THERICKER" "murdered out" . . .
As far as regrets - no, but it's not a daily driver. If it was a daily driver I'd definitely get silver

motorkas is right-
It looks like crap when dirty and stunning when clean. I'm a little bit of a clean freak when it comes to my car- it doesn't bother me to vacuum and wash it at least once if not twice a week. Rarely has someone seen my car and it actually be dirty. If you don't have the time or the patience to keep up with the black, go with the silver.

LOL, OCD - it all makes sense now. I know someone who washes their black car every week and sometimes in the middle of the week. The car is immaculate any given day. Everything about his house, the lawn, plants, driveway etc...is perfectly clean. For the past few years I thought he was crazy to spend so much time on his car (over and beyond extra maintenance required for black). It has to be OCD. I've driven by when he missed a week or two and to me the car still looked great - nonetheless, it got washed the next day. I never thought how OCD plays into car washes specifically a black car

I'm only really OCD about my car, however sometimes you're out of town and not willing to take your car to a car wash bc your **** about only using your specific soap, mitt, etc etc etc, and you're busy the entire time you're out of town and something like this happens. (See picture.)
Let's keep the comments about how I should have never let my baby get that dirty to a minimum, there was nothing I could do and I feel horrible about it already.
While I love the look of a Black E55 I curse Houston's random showers and humidity and traffic and horrid drivers daily bc she just doesn't say clean. I was her two times a week at a minimum and it takes me at least an hour to wash her at that. So you really have to love the look of black to put up with it. Silver is the complete opposite it is almost the best color imaginable at hiding paint imperfections. (Pewter's not too bad either.) So how much time are you willing to spend cleaning your E?

I really like black but after owning a few there's no way I can deal with the upkeep. I looked hard for a car not in black, white, or silver. Flint grey was it. Not a bad 'color' (metallic) and easy to keep up. That said, I don't think MB offers enough color choices, or at least none that are really out of the ordinary.

At first my car was suppose to be white but thanks to the dealer, I got black. So I gave them the finger and went and got a silver because I needed the car. Silver has grown on me and I love it!

I lol'd at your guilt. I have to admit I think this car has actually turned me OCD, I was never this finicky with my C-class which was black as well.

When my car is clean it is in simple terms "stunning". Something about a clean black car that no other color can touch. Black takes a lot of work and care to keep free of small swirl marks though.

Obsidian Black looks purplish/blue in certain times of the day and sometimes black. Attached is a pic of an Obsidian 05 e55 wagon that was for sale last year. There is a layer of dust on it, but you can see there is a tint to the paint nonetheless less.

And that's exactly why I bought a silver one! Black looks sick, but after two black cars I decided it was time for something that wouldn't look like a tornado hit it every time it sprinkled outside. I still wash it once a week or so in the Summer, and I'll probably spray it off between snow storms this winter. I'd rather be out enjoying it and spending time with friends instead of cleaning it all the time.
However, I do take the time to keep the wheels clean even if I'm too lazy to clean the whole car. Nothing looks worse than a MB/BMW with brake dust caked wheels. I also drive it 300-600 miles per week, so it's going to get dirty really fast no matter what I do. I put over 1,000 on it this week alone.
