Riding motorcycles makes me a little jaded in the power delivery department so every now and then I'm convinced my IC pump is bad (even have a spare sitting in my office for when it goes). When I'm questioning if said pump is bad I perform a test that was recommended on this forum a while back - 1) turn off traction control 2) floor it - if you smell smoke and go sideways - the pump is fine; chirp the wheels and go straight - your IC pump is bad. A little unscientific, but its worked for me so far.

I honestly don't know - I think it flows water to the supercharger keeping temps down - if the temps get too high - the supercharger will shut off basically leaving you with a regular 5.5 engine. Its a very common problem. . . luckily the part is maybe 150.00 and its a real easy fix from everything I've read.

the ic pump circulated the coolant beneath the s/c in order to cool the intake air charge. If the ic pump is bad IAT's spike, timing is pulled and you loose power.

Find the pump behind small amg grille on passenger side, feel inlet hose when engine is on. If you feel vibration, it is working. If no it is bad.

If the ic pump does not work all the time. Then when does the ic pump turn on. When you are flat on the throttle does the ic pump turn on then ?

It is always on in my car, when the engine is on. Your car I heard may have to rev to 2000rpm then it turns on, also may have temp switch activation. I have replaced my intercooler hoses with clear hose so I can pop the hood and look at the flow.

How much of a difference is there with the pump? I just got my E55 and i dont fool around with it much the day i decided to do so i couldnt get past two 1-3gear runs and the s/c shuts off, i kept fooling with it s/c shutting off left and right.

If your car is under warranty still take it the Dealer and they will test it. I recently bought an '06 and I dyno'd it to see the power the car was making to ensure the pump was healthy, as low dyno numbers = a failing or failed pump.

With it off you should be able to shred your tires and go sideways down the street. Change the pump.
