I've 48k miles on the clock, I changed oil at 46k and exactly 8.5 qrts went in. After driving 2k miles, I'd say 90% city driving, Is it normal to see 1 qrt go down ?

The manual says its normal at the time of breaking in, I'm far from that...

maybe the E350 guys would know better? what kind of oil are you running? and are you running any sort of additive?

This should be in the normal w211 section. I personally know of 1 M272 V6 engine that's having oil consumption issues, a 2006 C350. I also remember reading about some early SLK350's that had oil consumption issues as well.

I'm having the same problem with my 2006 C350. e1000 (^^) is a buddy of mine and he also has a 2006 C350 and he hardly burns any oil. My car is at the dealer right now and tonight (Monday) they are going to do an Oil Consumption test. The way they do this is they take out all the oil put a weighed amount and drive for 250km then weigh the engine oil again to see how much was burned off. When I spoke to my new SA (Service Advisor) he said that he has never heard of the M272 consuming this much oil. He said the only engine that should consume this much oil is the 6.2 AMG engine.

It's a waiting game now. I'll find out for sure tomorrow. I am hoping they can fix/replace my engine.

P.S. I have heard them say 1qt for every 1,000 miles is fine. I do not believe this, I believe MB is just trying to cover their ***.
They told me this is the industry standard. This is bull shyt because NISSAN says any oil being consumed (burned) is not normal.
