Hitting the track tomorrow

Picking up a set of drag radials in the am and gonna test my new torque convertor out.
I did not get a chance to run my car bone stock but my mods are only
low temp t-stat
modified torque convertor
Quaife diff
Drag radials.
I am running at Lebanon Valley in New York, not hte best track by far as far as air quailty, but the temps will only be in the mid to high 40s
Gotta remember to reset the ECU before I leave

what are the average 60ft times with these cars with stock convertors
with and without sticky tires?

Curious how much better the 60ft will be with the loose convertor, well as long as the tire stick, the convertor hits extremely hard off the line

My best 60' time is 1.644 with DR's at Sacramento which isn't known to be the best prepped track. I've been hitting mid 1.6's on a consistent basis now that I figured out my launch. Good luck tomorrow and I'm curious to see how your new converter does. Do you have a good idea at what RPM you'll be launching from?

Depending on how the track is biting and how well the tires i wil be using hook i will try a few different types of launches.
Exp tells me if it sticks the best 60ft with this car will be from a idle to wot or possibly bring it up to 1400-1500 and going wot.
Trying to hold the car at 2500 and launch I do not think will net the best 60ft,but i wil try it regardless.
What have you found to be the best for your setup?
netting a 1.6 are you using a stock convertor?
did you do a pulley change? if so im sure your power comes in earlier
with the larger pulley

I'm on a stock converter. I use to launch at 1200 RPM but after my LT install I found that didn't work for me. I tried several times and my best 60' time with that launch was 1.7's. Once I adjusted my RPM's down to 950 or so I nailed consistent 60' times from 1.644-1.68. My three best 60' times that last time out was 1.644, 1.651, and a 1.659. I'm not sure if I'll be able to better my 60' times without going to a higher stall speed.

Yes,ou will find on a tighter convertor that "flashing" it will net the best 60 ft time.
Going WOT from 1200 the convertor probably only hits 1600-1700 instantly, but leaving from 950 it flashe higher most likely around 1850-1900 getting you further into the torque curve, any 1.6 is really good

haters crazy
You want to launch where your car makes the most torque. Usually you design the tc to stall as close to max torque as possible. Just mashing the gas below the stall seems like it would give the drivetrain a hard shock when it hits the stall. Not good for keeping your parts in tact lol. You want everything to be tight when you launch. At least thats my opinion

You definetly want to apply some pressure to the drive before going wot to pick up any slack in the trans gears and rear end.
Bringing it up to a few hundred over idle first is a very smart move

Track was busy and lots of rice burner oil down so i was only able to get 2 passes in.
first pass ever was a 12.20 at 110,car was pretty well heat soaked at this point
Let it sit for an hour and went back up and went 12.13 at 113.1 60 ft was a 1.74
Car didnt spin at all,but the tires i used were a bit tall taking away some rear gear.
the car didnt like the taller tires IMO as we already have tall gear out back.
I am now gonna look into some type of fan over ride as even with a lower temp t-stat
sitting and waiting the car will get hot and wait for the factory fan setting and gonna fabricate some type if intercooler resevoir under that hood to seperate the fluids.
not really into a huge tank out back but seperating them has to be great for racing.

One other thing i had working against me was the drag radials I was using are almost 2"s taller, although they hooked perfect it really raised the gearing in the car.

THe whole intercooler heat soak is a big problem when alot of cars in in line,Im not gonna make some huge trunk mount tank, but being a fabricator of sort i am going to make a tank to fit up front and seperate the intercooler fluid from the cooling system.
also gonna setup mini fans on hte heat exchanger also over the winter.
Working on opening my own shop right now and wnat to make some items for these
cars that are worthwhile.

that's a great idea..im not a fan of trunk reservoir myself,i just replaced the HE to a bigger one, that worked just fine for me and my big pulley, unless of course you do back to back passes.. Makes me sick When i see guys running around with bags of ice to put on their rear mount reservoir, and better yet if is 90 degrees out and they are running a bigger crank pulley and TB, the benefits are not as rewarding as people would think. But again thats just my opinion. Thats just the nature of these cars and we can only hope to ease a little bit of that soaking. But yeah inside engine bay is another story..

Problem is even with a larger heat exhanger you are putting off the inevtitable.
If your sitting around with hte car running wven with a low temp t-stat the factory fans wont come on till its hitting over 200* which means you heat exchanger has to cool off 200+* water regardless of its size.
Which is why seperating hte sytems will work well, and if there is room
for dedicated fans on the heat x changer it will work killer especially on days like today.
I watch my IAT with a scanner and if I drive for a bit in the cool weather my IATs will only get as low as 90*.
im betting i can get that way lower, and the lower that number starts the lower it will be at the big end.

Yeah you are right, i did read about the use of the heater raising your IATs. I personally have not scanned my car, im sure its pulling timing like crazy at the track, but i will separate the circuits and is definitely not gonna be the trunk mount. I did see a guy with a Honda Civics radiator believe it or not in front of the stock unit. Then the trunk reservoir.
