Current Auction Prices & What to look for?

Hi. I'm possibly going to look for my e55 at an auction with my dad's friend who has a dealer license but really only sales like a few cars a month out of his house. He has not gotten back to me on what the prices are for another five days, so can anybody get some updated prices on an 05' 06' e55 with under 50k miles and recently sold? Also, what should I look for when trying to decide if the car is good? For example, where it came from, history, etc? Thanks.

Hey Mikey, there is a low mileage 2004 E55 coming through the Adesa Phoenix on NOV 10th. You don't have much time but I'd get out there and look at it. Looks like the mesh on the front grill is missing and there is some curb rash on one of the rims. I would guess you could get it for somwhere around 22-23k. Info follows:

VIN:WDBUF76J04A510548 Stock Number:624746 Odometer:36,329 MI Engine:8 Cylinder Gas [8G] Transmission:Sequential Manual Gearbox Body Style:4 DR SEDAN Exterior Color:Silver Interior Color:BLACK Inspection: Interior Type:Leather Interior Title State: California In Service Date: Seller:US Bank

you might get lucky and steal it for 20-21K. yeah, you'll need to replace some things but they don't look like big ticket items. I'd do a carfax on the VIN i put up or if you know someone at MB they can tell you if/when it's been serviced.

I don't know man, I'd be surprised if it sold for over 23K. Color is pretty common and it does look like there are some cosmetics that will bring the price down some. Average wholesale is 22.5K.

IS the tranny good? is the motor good? unless you are an expert beware.. was it a dealer demo and beat to hell by many drivers? MMR means nothing the day of auction.. Take a look at just the first few line of this report......

Report Run Date 2009-11-09 00:57:34.044 EST

10/22/2004 MONTVALE, NJ 2,329 Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE (Title #:OK200429600000052

and it didnt sell the last two week at auction which means a few things

1. seller wants way to much for it, or:

2. Car sold then went through P.S.I and failed, and/or

3. Buyer sent car to P.S.I it past then when buyer got in and drove car something was bad and ARB DEPT. took car back to sell again...

I say this every time I read a post like this... If you don't know the auction BEWARE..

I can only speak for myself but ADESA is the best auction I have ever been to. They disclose everything and I've never had an issue with any car I have purchased there. However, I ALWAYS to my homework and make it a point to go out to the auction and drive the car around on the lot. There is no room for complaining if you buy a car sight unseen. Here is what they have listed:

my friend saying auction prices are a bit high right now, and he's actually low on inventory because he doesn't want to overpay and be stuck w/ inventory if/when business slows. right now, BMW 750Li's seem to be good deals, and S550s are getting more reasonable. The R-class seems to have firmed up. Lastly, imho, you should stick with your orig plan of 05/06 E55 and make sure you have at least 5k/6 months warranty left. That way, you'll be protected short-term, and then you can decide whether to pursue extended warranty before the mfgr warranty expires.

An 05 won't have factory warranty left so better to go with an 06 or 07 if that is a concern. Never said how much he wanted to spend so it's a little difficult to know if price is even an issue. Prices might be high in Cali but they are pretty decent in the Midwest right now. Also, "waiting it out" isn't necessary b/c prices aren't going to drop enough to justify it. Also, the guy is looking for an E55, not an S class or 750. If he wants a 55 bad enough he'll find a good one and pay for it. Why he would he spend 45K-50K on an S550 when he could pick up and E55 for half of that???

Hi bigswin. My limit is about 29k to 30k. I would like if possible to get an 07 but I know my price range is too low probably. The 06' would be great if I could fall into that price range which it sounds like I can. Do you have any price ranges for the 05-07 average to above average cars? thx.

Your not gonna get a 06 with under 50k for under $30,000 unless it has some issues. Nice 05 are going through for High 20s before fees.

+1 Emoving.

If you have 30k to spend you need to be looking at 04s and maybe an 05. If you pick up an 04 for 25k you're going to be into it for 30k before it's over with. Taxes, plates, auction fees, MB service, tires, etc.... There is always something you will have to fix or replace that you are not planning on. Plus, if you are wanting to do mods, tint windows, etc... there goes more money. Here are some 06s just so you know:

Okay BigSwin! I definitely want an 05' just because I like the interior better with the sliding cup holder and it is newer. I want a silver with panaroma roof so it might be difficult to find at auction. I see many in autotrader and cars.com for around $32k with around 37k miles so I think it would be a lot cheaper at auction? Any type of cars like this that you can see?
