82mm TB install.

I know that there is a DIY for the TB install but it kinda sucks and the pics are gone. Im going to from a stock TB to a Eurocharged kit. Does anyone have a DIY right up for this. Is it true the SC will need to be removed for the TB install? Thanks

Is there a reason why you want to try to do this yourself? Don't you think it might be a good idea to let an experienced MB tech. do this for you, in light of your recent experiences?

Ya I thought about that, not sure yet on doing it cause I like wrenching on my car but I dont want a big problem again. Its kind of like if you were in a car crash you dont hire a driver after that you still want to drive........

That one piece that goes between the blower and the TB has 2 bolts that attaches itself to the blower (along others....I was there during the install but I don't remember exactly...) It just happens to be on the bottom of the it...

It is a big job man.... If anything accidentally falls in the intake valves while you have the supercharger off, it will not end well. But, I love working on my own car, and my advice would be to do it with someone else that knows the process... btw, the supercharger is HEAVY, not really a one man job.
Hope this helps

Ya I'll pry just have chris do it for me, as far as the supercharger goes its crazy how heavy it is. That along with all the pulleys and and water pump weighted 115lbs that I had to carry into Postnet and hold in one hand while I opened the door with the other hand also while the girl that works there was just staring at me. It pissed me off she woulndnt even offer to get the door.

Look don't be put off - this can be done. If you have an engine lift its actually pretty straight forward. Otherwise you need two guys minimum to lift it off - even so which I would not recommend it - use a lift!!

There was an idea I heard where just the back of the S/C if lifted up to expose the bolts and you can re/ re the housing while the S/C is still on top of the motor... this saves allot of bother with coolant all over the place etc etc. although not ideal either as access is tough... you would need to hover over the motor like in mission impossible !!!!

Can you take some pictures of the kit please ... really interested to see what the adaptor / mounting housing looks like and how they modified it.

I am off to measure my "80mm" tb and to see if its 78 or 80... if its a 78 I think I need one of these!!!!

Thanks!

Regards Steve.

I have done a few and it is time consuming if it is your first time(2.5-3hrs). The 82mm TB comes with a new tail shaft for the supercharged which cannot be removed with you taking the intercooler off the supercharger. In order to do that the coolant will need to be drained from the intercooler, intake mani's removed and supercharger removed with intercooler attached. All without loosing all the hardware....oh and dont forget new intake mani and supercharger gaskets.

The eurocharged kit has an adapter plate that is bolted to the inlet and then the TB bolted to the adapter plate. I believe the inlet is ported to a bigger diameter to match the TB size as well

Your "80mm" TB is indeed a 78mm

Yeah I measured my internal diameter of the TB inlet today and its ~79.4mm and then deeper down there is a slight lip which might be worth 0.5mm. Could not measure the plate but makes sense its a 78mm.

The only problem I have is how to make the VRUS CF airbox fit the 82mm TB. If its around 90mm outer diam - it will be pretty tricky modding the CF airbox - I dont know how much room I have.

What Y pipe do they supply with the 82mm kit ?

Any pics please guys?

Vrus intake can be ported out so that the 82mm TB can slide in, it has been done before. Just be careful.

Depends on who you buy the kit from.

Pics of what? Eurocharged kit? I believe they have pics in their thread. Vadims kit also has pics in a thread (y-pipe made me laugh).

the kit comes with the Y-pipe, I will be making my VRP intake fit the 82mm TB just like exotic-metal did.

I posted a thread a while back on what I used to make the CF air-box fit on the 82mm.. There is plenty of wall thickness to make the 82mm fit. After completed, it fits better than any stock Y pipe and TB kit.. Make sure you pull your rubber gasket out of the 80mm Y pipe and put it on the 82mm TB first.. I put it on in reverse from how it fit the 80mm Y pipe.. This makes for a very tight air seal, after you lock the box down.. There is Zero play in the fit..

I keep hearing about once the adaptor plate is on it changes the way the TB sits and its hard to make the CF airbox fit correctly?

Here are a few pictures of the clearance on my set up... There is plenty of room. I did put the lower air box with filters in place first,, then put the CF on and screw it down.. Very snug fit.. Did have to use a hose clamp on my PCV hose, as it was stretched to fit.. Will make a longer hose later on.

Let me know if there is anything I can help with.. It was easy to enlarge the openig and a quick easy bolt on job.. Even the Eurocharged kit went right on..

I don't know what you are waiting on, DO IT! The supercharger R&R isn't really that bad, if you are taking your time, it should take you about an hour to do the complete job. Please post pics and maybe a Youtube video of the DIY.

+1 +1 +1 +1 = +999999 If you want to get your hands in there, get someone who KNOWS (and by knows, not that they have worked on lambos or ferraris or whatever.... actual amgs and have done this before) what they are doing and watch/help them along the way..... big project and you don't want to go through all the BS you just went through all over again..... unless you are Scrooge McDuck..... then you can do whatever the hell you want

So it looks to be 50/50 half are saying only a AMG tech should do it and other are saying its a easy job that should be a little time consuming but not to hard.

Definitely not a 1st time diy install..... much cheaper paying someone who knows to install it than going through all that BS you just went through all over again.... my .02
