How can I tell if my car is prewired for factory phone?
I'm looking at a bluetooth kit, that's not exactly cheap at nearly $900 and it states ... Requires factory phone pre-wiring. Most U.S. Mercedes-Benz models came factory pre-wired for the phone kit. It is recommended that you confirm pre-wiring, compatibility, compatible handsets and all installation requirements with an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer before purchase.

Is there a way to tell conclusively without taking it to the dealer?

Premium II
If your car has the Premium II Package, in the console between the seats you will find a small cover. remove it and insert the MHI adaptor into.
Premium II includes pre wiring hands free communications system.
