WTF Chrysler not selling warranties

So after getting the run around from anyone at Chrysler willing to pick up a phone (yes, I called Todd...and Mike Case at Ziegler, too), I was told I had to go into a Chrysler dealership and get my car inspected and purchase it through them.

Called my local Chrysler dealership and the head warranty guy said his rep told him last month not to sell any warranties other than to owners of Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge.

I'm not sure how, if at all, this impacts current holders of chrysler warranties, but it sure as hell seems like this ship has sailed. Damn, now what warranty to get? Only have a few weeks left on CPO, any ideas??

yeah, i've been given the run around for at least the last month. first i was told they couldn't sell contracts in CA due to having not received their name change amendment from the CA SOS, now i'm told they can't sell them period. glad you guys, and many others here, got in while it lasted.

2004 E320
I suddenly stopped receiving any emails from Mike Case regarding a Chrysler
Warranty for my 2004 E320 that I purchased one month ago. He stated that if I had the car inspected before purchase it couldn't be more than two weeks old. He never mentioned that I would have to go to my local Chrysler dealer for a re-inspection. I wouldn't trust my local dealer here to do a thorough job. My nearest MB dealer is 100 miles away. If anyone out there has a recommendation for any other reputable Extended Warranty provider I'm all ears. However, the advice that I've had from several reputable individuals was to put that $$$$ into a money market account and use it when the need arises as a self insurance account.

I don't understand these posts. MB only owns 20% or less nowadays. Why would Fiat want to warrant a MB now?

His wife crazy
Well, that throws a monkey wrench in my purchase plans. I may have to suck it up and buy a CPO car, unless there is another reliable warranty company with comparable rates. The Chrysler warranty was the last bullet in my argument gun, for buying an older 55, now my wife will insist on an '06 or an E63, that is still under the MB warranty. Timing is really everything.

Wow, this is news. When I bought my car last month I got my Chrysler warranty from Michael Case. I also spoke to Todd at Chrysler Warranties, but he wouldn't give me a quote unless I was ready to purchase (which made no sense to me). In the end, I had the original owner take the car to American Service Center in Arlington, and they performed the inspection for free (fortunately, they had a free inspection offer at the time....plus the car was purchased there). I guess I got in just in a nick of time!!!!

This blows... Looks like a trade in might be in order come the end of my warranty. That's a shame. I loved this car but the cost of repairs is not something I'm willing to front.

**UPDATE**

I just bought one off of Zieglers website. Not sure it will be worth a crap, but I will call them with my purchase order and see what happens.

On a side note I was @ my MB Dealership last wk, my SA showed me a file of a customers showing warranty info only (1 of those late night TV add warranty Co's that claim coverage of ANY car up to 200k miles)

My SA said after 2 wks he finally got them on the phn, didn't cover squat on his MB, poor bastad paid $2800 for it. Be very careful buying aftermarket MB warranty

I have Fidelity. So far so good with my local MB dealership. I have the Platinum plan. They paid up quickly, covered my rental car. The only thing they won't spend $$ if you hear a noise. The dealer thought there was an issue with my rack but didn't see anything wrong. They weren't going to replace the $2500 rack for a noise. If its broke they will fix it though. My experience so far.

Aftermarket service contracts is a diversifying business line for them. Not much different than the finance arm of an auto manufacturer diversifying into loans other than just a "buy our car with our financing," savings accounts, etc.

In the big "Chrysler warranty" thread, I recall members getting pricing for an aftermarket service contract on a BMW. Why would Daimler/Chrysler want to warrant a BMW? In insurance or insurance-related businesses, the law of large numbers promotes more efficient claims vs. premiums collected, the larger the sample population gets.

Chrysler should want to cover Ford, Mercedes, Lexus, Honda, etc etc. as long as they underwrite them successfully. My $0.02 - this is where they made a mistake. For identical max-care coverage, it shouldn't cost the same to warranty an E46 325 as it does a w211 E55... but that's how they priced it. I'm aware of a few members here who have had tens of thousands of dollars in covered claims paid by Chrysler Service Contracts. Additionally, almost every AMG owner that I recall seeing their post and who has coverage through CSC has had a claim or two that has equalled or bettered their total contract premium. It's not rocket science to surmise CSC was/is bleeding red ink from the sub-population of AMG and V12TT vehicles in their overall service-contract pool.

A shame to hear this for those looking to add one, all the same. Thericker's right - most aftermarket service contract companies (not CSC, however, as many can attest) are an absolute scam, specializing in the high-pressure, impulse-buy sale - followed by fighting any/every claim through loopholes and legalese in the contract language. Caveat emptor.

I bought the General Motors Protection Plan, have made a claim, and have nothing bad to say about them. Last I checked they still cover AMGs. Covers just about everything the Chrysler Warranty did.

This is thoroughly disheartening news!
There goes my plan

Am I correct in the fact that Mercedes won't warranty a car that is not sold through them?

So I guess I have to buy a CPO (at roughly a $4000 premium over the same private seller car) and add their additional two years of coverage for another $4000 and I will end up with one year less coverage than the Chrysler plan and a premium of $5000 over the private seller and the Chrysler warranty....OUCH!

That is a hard pill to swallow for a used car that will depreciate a ton from the actual cost of ownership in the first year.

Gotta pay to play, I guess...lol!

I went that route when I bought my CPO. CPO extended limited warranty (as an aside, don't let anyone tell you its just an extension of the standard warranty...its NOT, its more limited) is free for one year when buying CPO. Then I added an additional year for approx. $2200, IIRC (def a rip-off compared to other warranties but I got a crazy deal at the time so I wasn't too worried about it).

My indy shop recommended both Fidelity or GMPP when I asked for his suggestion on this subject. I've talked to Fidelity but have not settled on any of their offerings. I'm still debating on just putting the $$$$ in a separate account and using it when required. I don't put on more than 6k a year on my E320.

Your worst nightmare...
***update***

I just spoke to Michael Case, I don't know where you are getting this information that they are no longer covering the MBs, he asked me to please clear this up. They are STILL covering MBs, AMGs etc. Where did you get this info from?

I purchased a warranty for the CL65 like 3 weeks ago, no issues. Guys continue to do business with Tod and Mike as this is the best warranty ever!!!

that should work well for you...does the e320 have airmatic? if so, you may want to consider a warranty but either way, you have much less to worry about than us e55 guys.
