E63007 08-15-2018 03:16 AM

I've spent months re-building my recently purchased 07' E63 with rebuilt Heads and Intake Manifold, installed new front AirSprings along with torque Arms, ball joints etc., and now it's mostly done. What I'm trying to find is info about using STAR XENTRY to do do an adaptation start-up to set the Camshaft Timing, since mine was way out of wack due to the Cam Adjusters on the passenger side being installed incorrectly! Someone had taken them apart only to put the inner interlocking gear in upside down. When put back together this way, the race facing the cam is further recessed than is normal causing the diamond washer to be un-used because the end of the Cam will not sit flush to the cam adjuster. Instead the outer rim of that recessed race which normally sits maybe a 1/8" away from the Timing fork on the camshaft is now butting up against that Timing fork when the Cam Bolt was tightened. Yikes! The only thing keeping it from uncontrollably wobbling was its being "supported" by the Cam drive gear from below! It's no wonder my E63 had 8 of 16 Intake Valves bent as a result of this! I only discovered this while I was putting things back together after sending the Heads out to be rebuilt! I even went ahead to purchase two new Cam Adjusters and ultimately took them apart to compare. What I found was that by installing that inner interlocking gear upside down, it not only swaps the opposing faces that would contact the Cam or the Cam Bolt, but by being installed upside down the oil channel governing the recessed barrel causing the Adjuster to lock in place to advance or retard Timing that is supposed to face the Cam Solinoid (i.e.-Cam Bolt side) is rendered useless! I was slightly relieved when Mercedes refunded me for those two Cam Adjusters when I brought them back the next week especially since I discovered on this valuable board the MB service update inferring when one Intake Cam Adjuster is replaced on one side another Intake should be paired on the other.

So needless to say, I'm chomping at the bit to get this baby running again! I just would like to get some input about how to adapt the ECU to the now properly set up Cam Timing??? My understanding from the guru "Tasos" is that STAR must be employed after making such a repair. And yes I did use New Headbolts as well as new Spark Plugs, installed a couple new ignition cassettes, new P/S Pump and HP Hose and new reservoir, VRP Shorty Headers, Racing Brake Rotors/Pads etc. Any help would greatly appreciated!!

Hi, my w211 220cdi suddenly stalls, when i put it in drive, this happens only when its warm, and have been off for like 5mins. when it stalls, it sounds like its one three cylinders, and then it comes back on four, and it repeats, if i then put it in drive, it stalls, and die!

Could it be one of the injectors that is starting to get bad?, please see image from star c4
I know this is not the right place to ask, but all star c4 experts hang out here, it would also be awesome to get a tip about what i could check!!

If you want to be sure send injectors in for a proper analysis. If you have Bosch Diesel Centers in your country they do i5 for about 30 Euros per injector. If you don’t have such locations i can recommend you a specialized business in Germany. They refurbish them too for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

we dont have, i live near the north pole, hahaha...but the specs on the picture, it seems ok, right????

Mackhack 09-06-2018 11:31 PM

I know you do. The value# are still within specs BUT at the very low end. How many km has the car on the odometer? What’s your driving style (Autobahn, country roads, city, heavy foot,...)?

HI
The engine has 170.000km, (i just changed engine on my car), about my driving style, city style..cause not heavy foot, cause we have really bad roads, is it possible that you can explain how i see that they are at the very low end=?

I need some help please. I can't figure out how to deflate the front shock in star. I think I tried everything on the list under airmatic???

mikekaro 09-17-2018 09:46 AM

Anyone in the Tulsa, OK area with a STAR? I'd love to get that annoying key chime turned off.

Nevermind, I hotwired the shock with a couple duracells to bleed the air out. Star system won't even make a good boat anchor.

Looks like you didn't try just everything on the list under AIRmatic. :D It's absolutely straight forward. Check the attachment.

This is embarrassing, but I couldn't view your attachment. My wife couldn't make it work either. Tried about 5 times.

Mackhack 09-26-2018 06:19 PM

At least you go to spend quality time with the wife around the car with your SD. Not many can say their significant other would do just that.

Roverron 09-26-2018 06:19 PM

it is a simple find.
you must not have looked hard or over thought the process
chassis
actuations
and in there it will tell you how to open the valve

You must be missing the software. You need something to extract .RAR files and then an image viewer which can handle .png files. Worked fine for me.

Mackhack 09-26-2018 10:11 PM

I would have uploaded the pictures directly but since they changed the forum software

a) they place pictures inside the post instead of attaching them and
b) no matter how many times I reorganized them they never posted in the correct order which was important to me since it should help others.

Nope, It was trying to open RAR files after I chose windows media to do it, It doesn't work, and we can't unchoose it.

you can change the default program in windows. Just search for “default program” on your PC and change it. A RAR Is a compressed file and 7zip or whatever will uncompress it. Normally you right click the file and choose to unzip to wherever you want it stored.

Hi, w215 owner here

Tried reading through the thread, glad I gave up around post 150, because I realized i was going down a rabbit hole of a 500+ comment thread haha. So i apoligize if this question has been asked ad nauseum BUT

anyways, has anyone had any adverse reactions from running the -10 degrees mod? I am of the belief the engine bay in my car is quite hot, my firewall insulation is even starting to deteriorate from the heat!

but i've read before, that mercedes has set the default fan temps because that's the temp in which fuel most efficiently atomizes, so what gives?

also again sorry if this has been answered, are the folding mirrors able to be opened/closed with the keyfob alone? would be cool, i have a w215 again btw

Zero issues. been running it for 215,000+ Miles also running a 87c thermostat and it's all good

Mackhack 11-04-2018 12:21 AM

Leave it where its at.

The engine is fine, the bay is fine. These cars get driven through the Mojave and Sahara desert for thousands of miles during testing to find out the best values. As a matter of fact a close friend of mine who’s a test engineer with AMG was driving a prototype AMG through the high desert (Death Valley) this summer and met me in Las Vegas with the car. He did exactly this type of driving there. Why do some thing they are smarter than the engineers who develope these cars?

maybe ill just knock the temp down 2 or 3 degrees instead of the full 10 degrees. Some of these guys are running forced induction so I’m sure they are generating more heat under the hood

Mackhack 11-04-2018 07:50 PM

The temperature is set at that particular value for reasons. Efficiency, emissions and so on. I can understand if people say **** the environment, who gives a ****. This attitude fits right into the entitlement society we live in right now. But anything engine related is somewhat important if you want to get the most life out of it. Btw. when people say they change the thermostate open and close temperature (by changing the temperature when the fan should come on) it’s funny as a thermostate has zero electronics inside, nothing there is being changed. The bimetallic spring is made to operate at a certain temperature and cannot be modified.

At the end of the day, it’s you guy’s cars and engines. Do want you want.

Good luck.
