Airmatic struts - replace in pairs ?
I had a new strut fitted to the E55 on 11th November. On Friday it failed ! Car slammed and the on dash warning - I only had the strut changed because the original looked to be leaking ......
Any way, at $1400 each here in UK I am now told by dealer that both front struts should be changed at the same time, contradicting their advice 4 weeks ao.
Any thoughts on why the new AMG strut would have failed, and whether I do in fact need to change both front struts.
Thanks
Marc

That new strut has a MB parts warranty and the dealer should "make good" on the labor.
I had one blow out and only replaced one, has been OK for 9 months, I can not detect any difference side to side fore & aft with 1 used strut and 1 new strut, IMHO replacing in pairs is fine under warranty, but not really necessary.
Here in the US there is a rebuild shop that renews the airmatic struts @ $400.00.
I think there is a shop in the UK that services airmatic but I don't know the name.

mb used to only replace struts in pairs but has since changed their view in this. regardless, you should have a year warranty on all dealer replaced items (regardless of the car's warranty status) so make them do their job!
