Question on High Flow Cats

Gents,

With the below mods, will installing high flow cats get me any HP/TQ gain or are they more for E55's that are pushing more HP?
  • Johnson Pump
  • Eurocharged Heat Exchanger
  • Let Stage 1 tune
  • K&N's
Everything else is stock on my car. Should I hold off on cats until I do the pulley, headers, etc, or would I see some more HP with these and my existing (above) mods?

Link to the mod: http://www.eurocharged.com/index.php...mart&Itemid=99

Thanks!

Alex

In a word YES. It is HOGHLY doubtful you will see ANY gains from the cats themselves as the stockers are really quite good. After a pulley and some long tubes well then the answer is a definitive YES you will see some gains. Just don't hope for 20-30 HP here as some of the fastest cars here have stock cats.

Happy holidays

Anything that reduces intake and exhaust restriction will add power.

Drive around for a few weeks with no air filters and let me know if you feel a difference

One option for now, would be to just remove the rear cats .. Later when you add headers (and you will), then spend the money on Race cats.. You can replace rear cats with X pipe , straight or repalce rear resonator with X pipe.. Severla easy options..

Gotcha, thanks again guys. Currently I'm looking just at pure HP/TQ gain mods and I'm trying to do this in a logical/sequencial manner.

So in order:

1. Filters - Done
2. IC Pump - Done
3. Upgraded HE (I live in Phoenix AZ, so this is key) - Later this month
4. Let Stage 1 tune - next week
5. Pulley(s) - early next year
6. Etc..

Although this is a generally true statement. At stock or near stock levels, the factory cats DO NOT restrict airflow.

Please feel free to ask MANY of the draggers here that hold MANY of the records on dragtimes, com.

To put on HI flow cats on a relatively stock 55 is a waste of money, period.

Once the first mod starts, it never stops. Plan for the future and always build your mods around doing more. If you don`t, as the mod virus hits, you will just keep re-doing and exapnding what you didn`t do right in the first place.. This waste $$$$$$.

Here is a mid pipe that I just built to go onto headers, with race cats. Never touched my stock AMG exh., until it was ready to replace it fully. Was tempted many times to franken hack it up to gain a few ponies but experience says to fight the mod virus and do it right !!

In a word YES. There have been NO appreciable documented gains on several C32's and E55's that were stock from removing their cats. At least according to their dyno sheets. I will concede you 3-6 HP. For the money, its not worth it.

In a modified car, again referring to my previous remark on your statement, YES it will show tangible gains.

Even a lonely little Ford Mustang, 88-93 sees NO gains from changing out the cats or mufflers until its making over 270 HP.

Completely agreed, thanks guys. While this is my first MB, I've owned high HP cars before so I understand the dynamics here. I was only curious as, for the $$$, it's a pretty inexpensive mod. But with no real HP gains, given my mostly stock E55, I will hold off on those.

Again thank you, you saved me from wasting $$ at this moment.
