Electric boot closure problems....

Hi,

so I have this option on my car, power boot closure, which I've always loved about my car, but recently its been giving my problems. When closing the boot its fine, just press the button and all is good, but when I press the button on the remote to open, the boot only pops up a inch or so, and doensnt fully open up. Sometimes when I hold the button down again for a second or third time then it opens fully.....really annoying!!!

Does anybody know how to fix this problem?? PLEASE HELP!!

The power trunk breaks all the time and can be costly. Let it go out completely and then just use it like any other trunk, do you reall need it to be power? Its not a minivan.

Take your car to the dealer and get it fixed. If it came with the car it should work, Its really just that simple.

Just open it manually with your hand. Yea, good idea to take it to the stealership,,,they are gonna charge you a crap load for something that is just worthless.

First off check the batteries in the remote, if they are fine. Then you definitely have a problem, that needs to be addressed. Take it to an independant shop, at least then, you won't be paying dealership prices. I have the trunk closure feature an absolutely love it, especially when my hands are full of grocery bags.

thanks for the reply, but before starting the thread I did realise I could take it to the maindealers.
I thought somebody might have resolved the problem with a small minor fix.

It's more than likely the motor that's faulty here. I had a similar issue with the wifes car and managed to get it fixed under warranty.
Otherwise it'll be a new motor that'll cost $805.00 wholesale or $1,170.00 retail. Check out parts.com..

Motor 03-08 $1,170.00 N/A $365.00 $805.00

You might want to try adjusting the springs that open the boot/trunk, there one on each side behind cover. Adjust it my Moving the spring up a notch or two on each side.

Come on guys you drive a Benz you knew these cars were electrical nightmares when you purchased them. Take it to the dealer and get it fixed. If you cant afford the repairs don't buy the car. My car is there now for a dead crank sensor and my drivers side keyless door sensor just quit, the cheap *** plastic chrome on the cup holder is peeling and the sunroof has a mind of its own. Do you see me *****ing??

Guys, be nice...please? Seriously, we're all supposed to be brothers with a common unifying passion for cars. Be cool.

Usmankhan, I just had this problem starting yesterday. It happened when it was open all the way and I pressed the close button on the car. I hears the "reeaarrhhrahh" sound like normal (which is bad enough by the way because it sounds craptastic), but then it moved like an inch then stopped. Tried several more times then had to force closed. Then when I opened it back up, it opened only ~2 inches. No fix in sight. I think I might get the f-ing computer manual b/c I'm having all kinds of problems: trunk, sunroof w/ a mind of its own like Full Throttle, blinker going out every freaking trip, creeky suspension, etc. I'd be happier with 1/2 the bells and whistles if they'd all work as they're supposed to!

Aside from the performance, I own an AMG is for comfort and gadgets. The electronic trunk is a must have and I would not buy another Benz without checking that option box!

As to using a failed electronic boot manually, it is not that simple as it will not release and open like the standard boot.

One more thing for the OP to check is that he is not "double tapping" the key button as that will cause it to pop and not raise.

Yes, thats all it was, becareful you dont put too much tension on the springs, as this will cause the boot to pop up too fast, and also causes too much strain on the motor when closing..
let me know how it goes!

No diceI got in there and moved the springs to the next hole. It was initially on the weakest tension setting (furthest to the front of the car). That didn't work. Also tried the next higher tension (3rd hole from the front). I hear the motor working, but nothing is moving. You didn't have to change anything else while you were in there?

3rd was too much tension, motor couldnt handle it, try the 2nd. Nothing else needs changing...
