Hi guys. I am the latest to the w211 amg club. I first though have one issue. When driving the hood open message would come on and off and so we opened the hood and it just turned out to be a loose sensor in the latch on the passenger side which we fixed and the message disappeared. After this and bolting down the passenger side hood latch we closed the hood and a couple hours later when we went to open the hood the passenger side does not unlatch or open. The drivers side you can hear and see it pop loose but the passenger side is locked in. We have no issue with the black tongue sticking out of the grill like it should but the passenger side no matter what we did does not open.
Is there any type of special procedure as far as getting underneath the car and opening or releasing it in some kind of back door way? If anybody has solutions please help me out because I need to get the car registered but they need to be able to open the hood to do emissions test. Thanks!!!!!

What year is your vehicle? On my 06 I only have one latch in the center...
Also, why would they need to open the hood to do an emissions test? Don't they just hook up the OBDII module?

The car is an 04 with 23k miles every option available except distronic and electronic trunk closer. Car was in a collection that just sat in a heated garage for many years. Their are two latches that lock the hood in place, one on each side and in AZ they require the hood to be opened.

Have you tried to have someone hold the latch release under the dash in the release position while another person jiggles the right side of the hood up and down gently? The right side is probably sticking because of the adjustment you made. Hope this helps if you haven't already tried this. It usuallly works for me.

Hi. Yes, we tried that along with several people pushing and pulling the hood and it just seems to be stuck or not releasing. Is it possible that the latch that is bolted down we could have put in backwards? It only looked liked it could go in one way with the way the wiring was, but now I am second guessing my self?

Seeing that your not getting alot of feedback, and I can't offer you any suggestions on how to get it open. I hate saying this, I would just take it to the stealership, the most that they should charge you is $120 for diagnostics. Just my two cents....

One of your release cable probably got disconnected or not enough tension to unlatch the other side or worst it could be broken. Get someone to push down on the stuck side fo the hood while you pull the latch, listen to the click sound than let go of the hood. If that doesn't work you might have to take it to the stealer. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I took it to a indie today and they tried to fix it for free using some basic things like we did at my house, but as I already knew the problem lies beneath. They will have to dig to find and fix the problem which sux. Anyways, I will update what the issue was.

It has been a long time, but I remember them using a clothing hangar to jimmy the latch open through the front grille. I think this is probably the best way to do it, but it is a PITA!
