E63 W212 Vs E63 W211

How come the E63 W211 is much less responsive and aggressive than the E63 W212. They share the same engine, not sure about the gearbox but the W212 makes this grinding/popping noise when changing gears and the rev is so much snappier, like more free spinning, the RPM climb and drop faster and the exhaust is throatier. By the way I'm talking about the M156 not the new TTV8. I'm pretty sure it's the gearbox and maybe the tune as well but need clarification. The W212 E63 M156 sounds like a BEAST by the way

0-60 should be about the same. The W212 does have the MCT vs the W211 Geartronic, so it does shift faster. Slightly wider rear tires.

On the track, there is no comparison. The W212 has a coil over front suspension makes the handling much better.

P30 against P30
Laguna Seca
W211 on Hankook Rs-3 (140) in perfect weather 1:50.88
W212 on Continental (220) in overcast cooler weather 1:50.00

Also, the W212 was at the Pro ADA, so a screw up would have less consequences than if I was driving my car.

I was referring more to the sound and the snappy-ness of the gear changes not the actual performance or the chassis. I'm about 100% sure it's because of the gearbox.

I would say they built the 07-09 E63's to be a bit more sedate and luxurious of a ride.

I think Mercedes understood the owners wanted something a bit more aggressive, so the w212 came out with a very aggressive looking body, and transmission to match. Your right about the snappy-ness of the w212 compared to my subtle changing, yet very fast still w211 e63 7GTronic without the MCT.

I prefer the w211 just because of the timeless look. It looks like a Mercedes, since the very first ones, with the round headlights and big grille to match! The new one looks like the future, and I'm ok with that, but I think i'm going to hold on to a timeless look, and maybe save up a bit longer instead of trading this in and getting a newer w212 with the TT for daily.

+2 on that. I could have gone 09 or 10 and I went with the 211 for the look.
