VRP 175 & 190mm Pulley

Did anyone ever pick up any of these pulleys and if so what were the results? I'm talking about the upgraded design.

Did they end up making a 190 mm finally? I heard they crossed it off the list a while back

I'm not sure but if ASP can make a pulley larger than the 180 simply by requesting one and Ali says that people in Abu Dabi have been running the 190 for the past two years it must work

I'm more interested in the 175 to see if anyone has had some great results from this pulley. I also now that it was design to have the outer ring come off and the 190 put on if the 175 didn't fit your needs.

are you talking about the first gen design..that had defects (wobble) and got secretly changed?

IF anything most seem to be happy with ASP

I have a 175mm Evosport pulley and it is top notch, it's built from the ground up and not on top of an oem unit. 11.4@123.4 and she got more in her. I may actually be trying out a 190mm so if you are interested in the EVO PM me.

I'm talking about the 2nd Gen pulley that VRP offered in the VR555 package. I may be able to get ahold of a brand new 2nd Gen 175mm pulley. Yeah I hear you on the ASP pulley. If I can get this 175 I plan to hold on to it until I'm ready to mod.

I'm only considering this particular 175 because it's a brand new 2nd Gen pulley at a pretty good price. When & if I mod I am doing exhaust 1st then pulley & tune and who knows after the exhaust I may not want to do the pulley & tune

E55, Supercharged Z4 (sold)
Exotic metal seems to be pretty up on pulley info. Maybe he'll chime in. From what I understand the ASP design is ideal because it keeps the factory damper and doesn't have the problem of being out of round due to torqueing (sp?) down the bolts and having that move the outer ring. It only needs to be out by a small fraction.

I am thinking about the asp 180 as well. I've had three LET pullies grenade on me. The second time cost me two grand out of pocket (woodruff key broke). I need something reliable. Any and all recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

Silly question as I'm considering the Eurocharged Pulleys of 172 and 180. What exactly is the difference? May I assume the larger the pulley's the more boost? If so what is the range to expect? So for example:

172 = +50HP
180 = +75
190= +125?

Perhaps there is even a formula?

Thanks.

Alex

The VRP I had tested also used a stock dampner. The general design was good but the building of the part was not done correctly.. The part was not balanced and the design did not allow for proper centering of the bolt on outer ring. This is why so many people have "wobblers" from them.. I have seen 4 VRP`s on cars and they all wobble. I have only seen 4 VRP`s ever and only had one tested, so do not know if they changed the design or improved the building of them.. I would be very cautious or have them checked for proper balance before installing on my 48K motor.. IMO.

There was actually a recall on those pulleys and VRP changed them free of charge (at least to most of the people that I know who had one).

But how would one get a VRP pulley anyways? I thought Victor was banned due to some conflict with the site and Vadim started his own company (Fedor Dezyns)

I wouldn't chance it with an unproven product. If any company released a pulley, or any other item, which then proved to be faulty, why would you think the 2nd gen is any better? Unfortunately, we can't just tear the motor down and check the main bearings.
Perhaps if you performed a routine oil analysis, additional bearing wear could be detected.

That is good to hear but the one I had tested was only purchased a couple of months ago and brand new. Then again, it may have been old invnetory on a shelf..

I am sure there are other good pulley`s out there but ASP has never given me a problem on any of my 8-12 vehicles I have used them on. Good old American made and 22 years at it.. The PO asked me to chime in VIA PM, so that is my 2cents on it..

I am going larger than 180mm and that will be a new topic someday..

Thx Metal for your input. Did you ever get that other piece back from ASP?

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
If its the one from Ebay, it looks awfully like the one I had that wobbled, removed and sold. Good luck to whomever bought that 'new' pulley off Ebay.
