feel bad for the car...however, that wasnt a 100k car. It was just a c5 z06.

on another note, I doubt they let anybody test drive the real 100k+ corvette.....the c6 zr1

test drive.

I'm calling major bull**** on this entire story. I've never test driven a car alone without the sales guy with me. Certainly not a high performance zo-6, even though it is only a used c5. Maybe $25-30k used at the most. The police and the dealers insurance company would do an investigation, see the skid marks and the freshly roasted tires and this clown would be in a world of ****. " Here are the keys to the 400hp vette, just bring it back whenever you feel like it". No f__king way.

1) That's not a $100k car, as already mentioned. A C5 Z06 was half that.
2) Who the F are those D-List comedians & 'celebrities' they're using for commentary? Danny Bonaduce? Seriously?
3) No dealership gives the keys away to a single dude w/out the salesman going with them.

Nice try douche Tru TV. Taint nothing true about that story.

I'm also the VP of Marketing for Teckademics. We've made DVD movies for years featuring the Gumball 3000 rally amongst others, in our Mischief series. This particular clip was from one of our movies. We routinely sell clips to True TV and pay per view outlets. We've had our clips in other episodes, and they just make up their own commentary and stories behind it. It's funny how creative they are, but it's all BS LOL!

And since I'm on the topic, our new two DVD pack was released last Tuesday at Best Buy nationwide Get your copies! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/JDM+Misc...21&st=mischief

I'm not saying this is an entirely true story, I have no idea.

As per the comments I quoted, both of you are mistaken. I've taken several MB's, BMW's, etc. out on test drives with no salesman present. Granted, the new car dealership isn't going to let you drive their new or used cars without a salesman present, but the used car dealers will. Especially the used European "upscale" car dealerships. The ones that have a few VW's and Audi's, but more MB's and BMW's.

It's happened numerous times. I remember a BMW went into limp mode on me with no salesman present. Car died about a half mile from the dealership. Called them up, they came and got the car and claimed it was a battery cable that slipped off the battery. They asked me to come in for another test drive a few days later, I told them no thanks.

Here was my first E55 test drive a couple years ago:

me: "I'm interested in your silver E55 and would like to take it for a test drive."

dealer: "I just need to see your license and proof of insurance."

me: "Ok, here you go." (dealer photocopies them)

dealer: "Here is your licence and poi back along with the keys, have fun and be back in 30 minutes."

me: "You're not coming with me?"

dealer: "No, do we need to?"

Needless to say, that was a fun test drive. Nothing like the one in the video above, but still fun. I didn't buy the car.

I can't remember the last time a salesman went with me on a test drive. I always go solo. They just toss me the keys after I give them my license. I test drove a new SL550 6 months ago when I was in the market. I had my wife with me at the time and told them that we'd like to take it out for a spin. What are they gonna do? Say "no", your wife has to stay here? I think not.

When I bought my 07 E63 I wasn't serious about buying it, I just want to check it out on our way to get some lunch in down town Seattle. Saleman ask me if I want to test drive it. I told him we don't have time and I need to take my wife to lunch and shopping. He said just take the car out and bring it back when we're done.

We went to lunch than to Southcenter mall for over 3 hr. On our way back she love the car so I bought her the E63. Now she want my X5 so we traded, now that I got the E63 back it time to mod the beast!

It's was nice of the saleman to let us take the car out. Maybe that what sold us the car and I don't like pushy saleman.

"puppy dog close" take it home with you and you'll keep it.

Euromotorcars let my wife and I test drive an E55 and a S55 without any salesman - said to bring it back whenever. With the E we were dressed in a suits - With the S we were in jeans and t shirts. We're both below of the S class age demographic.

Euromotorcars is the same dealership I was referring to as well. Their prices are horrible, but the service dept is great.

+1 - even when you show them comps of similar cars they won't budge - really liked the sales guys though - wanted to give them the business but a five figure mark up is . For service I go to Benz Auto Elite...mod friendly, really treat you right and they do great work. I never have to worry about if they are BSing me or not.

Did you get the HRE's for the SL?

Thanks Mike, I'm frantically digging through my archives for my Gumball 3000 DVD, I haven't watched that in a while. I'll be sure to grab a copy of the new releases.

Naw....

Won't even think about wheels until Spring. Call me crazy, but I'm one of the few people that likes these particular stock wheels on my SL600.

But, if I upgrade, I'm seriously considering staying with 18's. 19 and 20's can be so unforgiving, but they look great.

It is not entirely unplausible that one, could test drive a new AMG without a salesman or saleswomen accompaning you. Especially, if you've bought a AMG from the dealership previously. But it is a rarity, at best! I have driven only one car, in my life where I didn't have a salesman accompany me, and it wasn't an AMG.

I wouldn't expect to take a brand new AMG on a test drive by myself, unless I was on a second test drive with someone in my circle of influence in an SL or other 2-seater. The only reason I would want to take a car by myself is to get the salesman to shut his mouth. That and I would hope that a brand new AMG that I would buy hadn't been test driven by some yahoo doing something like what that vette guy was.

oh go have some fun and try a bunch If ya don't "need" it then go play.... in that price range there are lots of fun cars to be had... new and used... if ya want something different from the benz...

If ya really like driving.... Porsche, great driving car... Aston Martin, again great to drive... Ferrari ? never had one, just hear maintenance nightmare but who knows if that is true of the newer models...

Did ya like the NSX ?

Go drive stuff and have fun... then decide

10 years late bro. Obama was just barely in office and the DOW was still under 10,000. How do we keep bringing up these old threads?
