So that's why you buy a car!

I never buy cars based on looks but the cars I buy just generally attract looks.

With that being said, there is not one car I have ever owned that has gathered more looks, more in person inquiries at a mall-gas station etc, more camera pics/video runs while Im driving, than the GTR. Its a bit of a unknown specimen to the layman out on the streets even here in Cali/OC.

But again, its not why I bought the car. I owned a stage III 996TT- nice car but not as nice as my 997TT. You can definitely make a 996TT faster but look how long its been out. The GTR has been out less than 2 years and the mods are working well.

if you want a mobile ***** extension you buy a an F-car or a lambo.

GTR is a technology masterpiece and it takes a true car enthusiast to looks past the "brand"

My DD is a 996TT. That 01 is wildly overpriced. I paid about that, a year ago, for my 04 TT convertible. Personally, I don't like the body kit, but he's trying to get his mods back in his price. That doesn't happen.

Keep the GTR all the way. I would consider one, if there were a convertible.

Here's some info on my GTR:

Which would you take, and why?
Since this is neither a Porsche board, nor a GTR board, I'm hoping for some good answers.
I'm a Porsche guy myself so that being said let me choose. The 996TT is almost 10 yrs old although still a very nice car. Technology has changed quite a bit since it was launch so the GTR's a good choice. Exclusivity the GTR has the upper hand. I can only recall seeing 2 GTR around here but lots of 996TT. As far as the price the 996TT is way over price even with the mods especially compared to this RUF. http://inventory.racperformance.com/web/947/vehicle/452254/2002-Porsche-911%20Turbo-RUF%20550hp%20Conversion-Dallas-Texas?store=947.
I also specially like the GTR for its handbuild engine and transmission just like our belove E55K.

Now I would consider that one but not that other POS! That is a nice example of a beautiful well kept P-Car!

Thanks emoving!

I haven't driving the P in a while since i bought the E55. I tought the E55 was pretty close in power/speed. I drove the P today and yeah, it's not even close. The P pulls really hard and has a ton of traction. It feels so much lighter, i guess because it is

You should take them both to the track and see which one is quicker

This is apples to oranges but an E55 and 996tt might be closer in acceleration than what seat-of-the-pants implies. My buddy's mid-13 second RX-7 felt just as quick as my big heavy E.

Your metcafe video contains a virus, I clicked on the video and then I got a warning that a virus has been detected.

Strange, I've been watching youtube, streetfire, and metacafe videos for ages. Metacafe should be safe but to err on the side of caution, access the same vid on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbIVChrVGIo

I did read the link in post #1, he only describes the details of the car...but he offers no opinion/feedback/subjective opinions on his car. Just a list of mods.

I'm curious what Fatasm thinks of the car as a daily driver. How comfortable is it day to day. What's the ride like compared to his SL63. Why does he want to get rid of it already? Why would he consider an 8yr old car a better choice than his '09 GTR. Etc, etc, etc.

The GTR is an awesome car - different thing than the 996 Turbo which (being a Porsche guy) is one of my favorites if you don't have the budget for the 997 Turbo. I too think the '01 is waaay over-priced. Now g354080's 996 is a superlative example and one that would be a good trade.
