Ya removing that will probably reduce some rattle as well

How do you like the Nav in the Alpine? That was the head unit I had before this one... I absolutely loved everything except I really wanted 5.1 in this car.

Now I suppose I need to sell that W505... How does $400 Shipped sound to anyone?

Right now I have running:

Kenwood DNX9140 - Video bypassed, iPod, Rear Camera (Alpine Unit)
Focal KP2 6.5 Components front
Focal KP 6.5 components rear
Factory Center (thing is getting booted next trip in)
Alpine Type R 12" Subs x 2
Alpine PDX1.1000 Sub Amp
Alpine PDX4.150 4 Channel
Jenson 100w something or other Amp for the Center Channel
Passport SRX

I'm running from back in my Alpine days (just transferred into this car):

Alpine 9833 HU
Alpine Type-X 6.5" components
Alpine Type-X 12" sub
Alpine MRD-M1000 amp (yeah the HUGE one)
Alpine MRP-F300 amp
Alpine Multi-amp controller

Future plans include a new HU with better iPod hookup and to remove the stock speakers in the rear shelf. Probably won't make the updates soon, I have other priorities right now.

Nav in the alpine is not one of it's strongest points, but it gets the job done. I do like the fact that it is no DVD based and is always available. I used to be all about Pioneer units.....had a P80MP, Avic N2, Avic D3, Avic F90BT.

The last one was such a piece of garabage that I ripped it out after a week and went with the Alpine.

Alpine has always partnered with Apple so the support is great. I have and iPod conencted to it full time and an iPhone when I'm in the car......since it has 2 iPod connections. I like that one of the connections supports video from iPod and iPhone.

Tal - your setup is nice. I like Focal speakers a lot

And the trim is molded and texture painted to match the trim around the climate control. You'd be hard pressed to think mercedes didn't do it factory.

Car looks amazing, nice job. I would agree on the look of the trim around the head unit. I will be installing a Pioneer shortly and will be looking to get my trim piece matched with the black burlwood the same as the rest of the car. Only then will it look factory.

I like how you removed the CD changer and used the opening. Great idea and one I admit will mimic. Perfect to conceal something there.

Yes we did the steering wheel controls so that the +/- buttons control the volume and the phone buttons control track up/track down.

Thanks man! I found this pic with the birds eye maple trim around and it was just a bit too much trim for my liking. But it'll give you a good idea of what it will turn out to be Thank you clk22 for the image. His shop did the work apparently. Looks clean.

I talked with my installer a little bit over the weekend about the box in back, unfortunately he didn't have more than five minutes so we've got another appointment this week to work on the trunk. I'll get to the bottom of this CD door once and for all.
