E63 sec cat and resonator delete estimate

I went to a local shop for an estimate on deleting the secondary cats + resonators, and installing an X-pipe. Here's what they told me:::

10 Hours labor to remove the exhaust, cut out secondary cats and resonators, bend and install 90 deg elbows and 90 deg ends on straight pipe that replace resonators, fit and install X pipe and prep for powder coating. .. 10 hours X $65.00 = $650.00

2 Dynatech weld on exhaust clamps for behind the 90 deg bends $49.00 X 2 = $98.00

Magnaflow X pipe, 3" stainless steel. $94.95

Stainless pipe and hardware. $65.00

Powder coat $200.00

Total including tax $1185.50
Not only does this seem like a highball estimate, it's also confusing to me.
10 hours? Really?

E63 AMG
That's garbage. I had mine done last year by a local shop and it cost me under $400.00. The only difference is that i ran 3" straight pipes instead of the X. I'd go somewhere else. Oh, and it took these guys about 2 hours to do everything.

Go somewhere else.

That is ridiculous.

Should only take a few hours to complete an entire exhaust rebuild, assuming they have mandrel benders on site, and if they don't, they are probably not a good place to go and have an exhaust done anyways.

The powder coating could take several hours as it has to bake, but that was not included in the hourly rate?

Go somewhere else, then drive by their shop and show the tech that gave you the estimate how good your car sounds after you get it done at a reputable shop.

Just my advice.

PS, do you really need it powder coated?
Yeah it will be nice when looking under car, but really....

Just use a quality stainless throughout and you should be fine.

I have my own muffler & brake shop and i did my resinator & 2nd cat delete my self with mandrel 3in pipe with x-pipe and it took me about 3hr or so and thats only cause i wanted it perfect. With parts & labor 400 to 600 sounds right 600 being alittle on the high end. I would charge some where between 450 to 500. I would go else were that price is way over priced i also did my exhaust stainless threw out.

Slow
I paid $75.00 to have my resonators removed and replaced with straight pipes. Also quoted $150.00 for the sec cat delete with a custom x pipe, that sounds like a lot of money to me.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - really appreciated.

@ jkintegra: you're right, I really don't need a powder coat finish. I was just floating the idea.
