MY2003/2004 E55 Markup [again]
I inquired about the "new" E55 AMG and if they were taking deposits. The sales person said they were not unless the customer was willing to pay a $20K-$25K markup over MSRP.
Of course I was not suprised since I have seen this same dealer mark up the "rarer" benzes including the 03 CLK55 AMG, CLK500, SL55 AMG, and CL600. These have been marked up anywhere between $17K-$30K over MSRP.
Of note, they had a couple of black SLK32 AMG's, a C32 AMG in silver, and a silver G55 AMG toaster without markups...whatever...
I've never pucrhased any of my benzes from this particular dealer since they cater to the stupid, but do get service there since it's fast, convenient, and I am friendly with the assistant service manager
Anyways, just thought I'd post that here. If you want to know which dealer it is, e-mail me.
Good luck to everybody in getting their new E55 at a reasonable price (i.e. below MSRP).
there's an abundance of great barely used cars out there and really horrible economy, why pay over MSRP? to double your first annual depreciation?
regards
i don't think MSRP is reasonable considering the present situation

$20-25k is going to be the asking price for at least a year. We should be seeing $10k over in LA by next year. Of course, there will always be the lucky few that can get the car at MSRP. I wish I was one of them!
As for looking for this car under MSRP, I wish. If anyone can get the dealer to come off list on this car, I will bow down.

Because the economy and markets are in poor shape, paying over MSRP is not necessary if you look around.
Because the new E55 is a new model in short supply, even the low volume demand which exists will allow dealers to sell virtually all of them at MSRP (or above for those who are content to pay extra).
You will NOT find an E55 under MSRP anytime soon. Period.
