Thumbs down MY2003/2004 E55 Markup [again]

Went to my local Southern CA. MB dealer/service for service today and stopped by the showroom to see what they had.

I inquired about the "new" E55 AMG and if they were taking deposits. The sales person said they were not unless the customer was willing to pay a $20K-$25K markup over MSRP.

Of course I was not suprised since I have seen this same dealer mark up the "rarer" benzes including the 03 CLK55 AMG, CLK500, SL55 AMG, and CL600. These have been marked up anywhere between $17K-$30K over MSRP.

Of note, they had a couple of black SLK32 AMG's, a C32 AMG in silver, and a silver G55 AMG toaster without markups...whatever...

I've never pucrhased any of my benzes from this particular dealer since they cater to the stupid, but do get service there since it's fast, convenient, and I am friendly with the assistant service manager

Anyways, just thought I'd post that here. If you want to know which dealer it is, e-mail me.

Good luck to everybody in getting their new E55 at a reasonable price (i.e. below MSRP).

You will find very few people who take delivery of an E55 this year below MSRP. Most all are pre-ordered, and the ones which aren't usually receive a markup.
"Reasonable" is MSRP for the time being.

i don't think MSRP is reasonable considering the present situation
there's an abundance of great barely used cars out there and really horrible economy, why pay over MSRP? to double your first annual depreciation?
regards

We live in America, the land of EXCESS. Especially true if you're fortunate (or cursed!) enough to live in Los Angeles.

$20-25k is going to be the asking price for at least a year. We should be seeing $10k over in LA by next year. Of course, there will always be the lucky few that can get the car at MSRP. I wish I was one of them!

Haha! Typical dealer markup. So i guess if you see a W211 E55 being sold for $10k markup that would be considered a bargain right?

You guys on the left coast REALLY need to shop around more... I'd bet you 50% of your savings that with just a LITTLE work (or for those of you with AMEX Centurion cards, have your concierge do it) you could find a dealer elsewhere that could A.) Get you your car faster B.) Happily sell it to you at MSRP and C.) Have it transported to you in a covered carrier. Instant savings of at least $7k net (if local dealer wants $10k over).

As for looking for this car under MSRP, I wish. If anyone can get the dealer to come off list on this car, I will bow down.

As mentioned above, for this year, a "reasonable" price on a new E55 is MSRP...no more, no less.

Because the economy and markets are in poor shape, paying over MSRP is not necessary if you look around.
Because the new E55 is a new model in short supply, even the low volume demand which exists will allow dealers to sell virtually all of them at MSRP (or above for those who are content to pay extra).

You will NOT find an E55 under MSRP anytime soon. Period.
