e55 amg mercedes
e55 problem car loses power randomly

i am not sure what the car is doing ,it does not throw a code it just sometimes when i'm full throttle will lose power like 50% of the power and then if i let of the accelerator it will kick back in and drive normal..any one had this problem with there e55? i'm thinking maybe it's the torque convertor going bad ? not sure ?

Sounds like Intercooler pump (IC) failure. The pump has either failed or delivering low flow and it is not enough to keep the SC cool so the SC is shutdown to keep it safe. Once the internal air temps (IATs) are low enough, the SC comes back on and the monster is back.

Use the search function and you should find a ton of good discussion on it. Lots of people replace their stock IC pumps with a Johnson pump that seems to work better. I had a Renntech pump installed on my SL55 along with a additional heat exchanger to help keep the SC cool. I think there is even a DIY on IC pump install.

Search is your friend but more than likely it's the IC pump going or gone bad...

Whats the mileage in your car ? maybe need to change plugs ...
IC pump failure you wont really notice that much unless you are racing with someone then you see the different. Without the SC, the car should still running fast 349hp 391 torque.

Have you ever driven a car with a pump that's faulty?

If you had then you would relize the symptoms are exactly what he's describing. I had the OEM Bosch pump go bad and that's exactly the feeling of the car falling flat on it's face.

I haven't. Few members had the experience that they were not sure if it was the IC pump or not. So not always so easy to determinate the problem. Well, to be safe, just change it... about approx $200 with labor.

When the supercharger shuts down, performance falls completely flat. It's not like you'll get the performance of the W210 E55. Essentially, you have a normally aspirated low compression ratio motor that's breathing in really hot air whenever the supercharger shuts down due to the IC pump issue.

Now at least I know my IC pump is good because my car always runs very strong.

The ic pump will not throw a check engine light but it will set a code but you will need a sds to pull it...
