URGENT - 2007 E63 Routine Maintenance - Spark Plugs/Trans Fluid Flush
Have done a fair amount of research on this subject over the last few months, with varying results....
Have read many press releases/brochures stating Tranny is "sealed" and fluid should not be changed. This includes car's manuals, AMG private lounge, etc.....
The presumably "updated" FSS computer system now states Tranny Flush ONCE at 40k miles. This is what MB dealers recommend as well..... Then spark plugs at 60k miles (instead of typical 90k or so).....
My good friend/performance MB tuner told me NOT to do the Tranny service UNLESS you experience problems prior - as sometimes when you take lubrication away from clutch plates, it causes them to slip, then you need to replace the tranny entirely..... However my mechanic tells me that theory is from 15 years ago and newer technology is not subject to this problem, that "old news" is bull**** and untrue. He states that the FSS computer is updated often, and as the new 7-speed tranny wears/they discover new things about it, and therefore update machine to reflect a 40k mile flush.
How many of you have done these services and/or recommend them ?
Alternatively - advise against them ?
It seems there are always two sides to any story. Also - what are the differences between DRAIN and FLUSH ?
And what would be recommended for this (722.9 or 722.6 - can't remember) transmission ?
Thanks in advance !!

Every fluid has certain life and it can't go for ever.I have read at many enthusiasts car sites that it's recommended you change the transmission fluid at 30K miles for short frequent stop and go driving and 40K for highway driving.
Brake fluid be changed every 2-3 years and ofcourse oil every 3 to 5,000 miles.
Btw i just had the transmission fluid changed ($150) and in my E55 with 30k miles. The drive feels the same but i am happy that the transmission has fresh/crisp oil though.
Hope that helps.

I got my tranny flushed a couple weeks ago at 38,000. It wasn't super cheap at the dealer, but it wasn't horrible either. I need to get my brakes flushed in a couple weeks.
