Tough to believe your MBZ front end was nearly torn completely off, and the Jetta looks like it bumped into a wall at 4mph...

2005 BLK/BLK E-Double Nickel.
First of all the air compressor pump is not bad or else the car would of sat on the floor immediately.
He needs
-complete bumper
-bumper reinforcement bar
-L bumper reinforcement arm
-L Headlight
-L fender
-L radiator support
-misc pieces that we do not see

That mixed with labor rates from a dealer will be $6500 minimum

Good luck on repair...

Best of luck with this, I've been their and know the headache man.
The problem with Carfax is that accidents like this are rarely reported. In fact, it is quite random in my experience that "significant" accidents are reported.

It would be nice to be able to get compensation from the insurance company for diminished value but that is almost impossible to get out of them. It is usually more successful to pursue a minor pain and suffering case as your neck hurts from the impact.

The Jetta is mostly structure on the part that did the hitting while the E55 was hit in an area that is all plastic or metal with no support (the front of the fender that is next to the headlight). I assure you that the outcome would be much different if these 2 cars hit structure to structure.

That's great- I owned a dealership and worked in that concentration for a long time. If you pay $15k for that repair job- you're an idiot.

You must have conveniently missed the part where I said " my estimate was conservative." I'd never pay that amount myself as that is why insurance companies exist. Uninsured motorist protection is a must in CA.

UPDATE

Well the car is now at a very reputable collision repair center...actually dropped it off on Monday. I filed a claim with State Farm and the adjuster should've been out today for the initial estimate.

HUGE THANKS to Blacksport350 for the help and advice.

The lady at the collision center has me worried though...she says it could be two months to get the repair done...should it really take that long to fix this?

2 months is an aweful long time. I had front end damage before on a Galant which required a new hood, lamps, bumper, and grill. It took the shop almost 2 weeks, with the longest wait being the painting process. The shop lady is probably just guesstimating since they do not know the full extent of all the electronics damages, if there are any.

First Estimate in

State Farms initial estimate came in at $6100. Now the bodyshop will do a tear-down and do a full inspection of whats damaged and then have State Farm amend the initial amount.

Like I said (and read his quote). You have no idea what you're talking about. Leave the estimates to those who know what they're talking about- don't just spout numbers off.

$5K for a bumper and headlight is right on the money. $3,400 for the bumper and $1,600 for the headlight. I just went through this and that's what it costs, including paint and labor(which honestly pales in comparison to the parts costs). State Farm took care of mine no problem, though I ended up not needing the headlight, just the mounting brackets. The lights were included in the original estimate.

Edit: Those little impact strips on the bumper cover are $248 apiece. Stuff adds up in a hurry.

izzyz28, no offense meant here. Insurance company just quoted me almost 25k on my range rover that almost rolled over. It's a 2010, and I was hoping they would total it but they didn't. Anyhow- a check was given for the original estimate, I have a top of the line body shop repairing it for less than 10k right now and will post results when the job is complete. All you really have to do is shop around and take your own parts to them.

To me the worst part is since you were on private property, he won't get a ticket. Same thing happened to my wife when she was in a loaner from the Infiniti dealer. Went to the police station to fill out a report, but no ticket issued.

Enjoy the wind noise whistling through the cabin every time you hit 70mph from now on. That frame has to be off.

that number is a low ball, your insurance dosnt want to pay up.Mine diod the same thing and said my damage was 800,after the shop fixed it they sent them a bill for 3600.

that is a huge low ball because they are paying out the pocket and most def not using mb authentic parts.

I had to wait over a month also, its not that it takes that long, its just the wait to get the car started on.

thoughts on initial estimate

A closer look at State Farms initial estimate confirms A LOT WAS MISSED. They also used a lot of replacement parts from carparts.com (headlights, panels, and a re-finished bumper cover).

I expect the repair amount to climb a lot higher as the shop gets into it. It's on the frame measuring system now...looks like the very front frame tips got tweaked. All-in-all everything mechanical under the hood looks to be in tact and un-touched...including the suspension.

The shop is working with the local MB dealer on OEM parts
