Radar Detector Suggestions

I have noticed alot of speed traps around here --- too many radar guns hiding in the bushes. I think its time to pick up a new radar detector.

5 years ago I had a V1 it was awesome -- it saved me a few times. I was looking to get a new one but see they really have not done any upgrades in forever -- There must be a newer/fresher radar detector using newer technology... We all know technology gets outdated very fast.... think about computers ---

I realize most of the police are using older technology -- so, these older radar dectors still work --- but newer stuff would be better and more useful.

Help me out -

Escort makes a bunch of great products. I have an SRX with jammers in my car and it's everything I could want in a detector. It's flushed away, nothing to look at besides an LED. and I can shut it the hell up quick or just mute it. I would look to see if you could find one one clearance... I picked mine up for around $500. Or look into their new Passport 9500ci which has features where you can mark known speed traps and GPS crap you probably wouldn't use anyways.

But I know people who still love and swear by the V1, and rightfully so, it's legit

Either way get something! Hope that helps in any way.

Last night I almost went to jail for "squealing my tires and being supposedly 25mph over the speed limit" What a crock of shiat! I was only 10mph over the speed limit and there is no way he could of known that because I had my 9500ix on and nothing was picked up. I think he just made up the speed limit # because he said he was going to let me off easy with only civil speeding and no squealing violation. Should I contest or do my driving school?

Sorry to interrupt your thread guysandiego.

Did he clock you with a radar or pace you to determine your speed?

I had the same dilema and recently picked up the Escort 9500ix. Works great.

I've driven around town with my Escort 9500ix for about a year now and I know when it makes noise, there's a threat. It eliminates nearly all the annoying false threats through GPS location. Updates speed cam and red light cam locations as well. Love it.

I love my 9500ix, except for one thing.

Our traffic lights are equipped with sensors to watch traffic & switch accordingly. The 9500ix goes crazy at these intersections once in a while.

The GPS works great for red light cameras, as she always notifes you when there's one coming up.

I have a Valentine 1 and wife has 9500ix. Both are great for differnet reasons. GPS on the 9500ix and the threat direction on the V1 are the biggest differences.

I've had a V1 for 10+ years and the only ticket I've ever gotten with it are photo radar and a laser ticket.

I've been considering the 9500ix for the photo issue - but I usually find those when traveling and rarely pack a radar detector.

Mike Valentine is constantly updating the V1's firmware, to keep up with technology changes. I just can't live without the arrows and bogey counter.

V1 for the arrows and counter but it is annoying as hell in the city. Still... I got nabbed head on by the Po Po for going 65 in a 55. We met at the top of a hill at the same time with him traveling the opposite way. V1 has always picked these up before, not sure what happened here, but it is an easy ticket to win so I'm not worried.

Considering you live in a very congested city, I would recommend an Escort. Arrows do not mean as much in city driving as it does on the open road which is why I have a V1. If in the city, I would not use a V1 as it never shuts up. You can program out the K and X bands though on the V1 if you wanted to. Just MO.

if you buy anything other than a Valentine 1 you are simply wasting your money...

I can not recommend them more highly - my whole family uses them (6 units to date, soon to be 7)

I've owned nothing but a V1 since 1991 and they are truly awesome. I will say that as awesome as they are nothing will prevent tickets more than simply paying attention to your surroundings and use the 3mph rule and you will be ok. btw it doesn't hurt if you leave your house a little early so that you don't have to speed.

I would contest it. The officer is going to have to provide a calibration report and proof of what he clocked you at. If your detector didn't go off he more than likely didn't clock you. The worse thing that can happen is you have to pay the same fine.

I have the Escort Passport 8500xi. It works great for me. Have not had a ticket since owning it.

+1 Leave early = less chance.

However, I got pulled over when I was 60 in a 55 (cruise control on), and the officer gave me a ticket for 73. I have a gps tracker and my car is dead on. Can't avoid the quota. That jammer would have been nice.
Fairfax county sucks.

Man...I feel you! My parents live in Lake Havasu, AZ., and I DID go to jail in a dogless wonder 4.8L Chevy pickup that had a governor that prevented it from going 100! He said I was doing 104 (I was actually probably doing 85-90), I asked him to see the radar, and according to the Sheriff, they don't have to show it to you like in Ca. I've lived in Fla., Ca., and I think the cops in AZ. are some of the hardest I've come across!
