Water pump longevity?

Hey all. I'm ordering up parts for an engine rebuild. I've built quite a few engines in the past and typically when I'm freshening it up, I'll replace all gaskets, seals, timing belt/chain, and water pump. Well, the water pump on these cars are $400 so now I'm second guessing it.

What's the life expectancy of the water pump on these cars? Anyone ever have one go bad?

My engine has 54K on the clock as of right now just for reference.

Thanks!

Replaced mine at about 55k! Corrosion around the pump, didn't go bad, just needed replaced soon.

That's awesome.

What's another $400, right?

I would call a few places that re-build waterpumps and just have yours freshened up. New seals, bearing, and your good to go.
