Help me choose my next ride: 07 BMW M6 Manual; 07 CLS55; 07 E63; 08 C63-Vic55 HELP
Guys-
These are the cars I am looking at next. I was going to pull the trigger on another E55 but decided since I have owned that vehicle before, I want to try something different. Vic 55, I know you have owned some of these cars so your input would be greatly appreciated.
This vehicle will be a garage queen and weekend cruiser and I am looking for exclutivity, ultimate fun factor and be able to handle it's business on the streets of Mexico if the situation presents itself. I am more concerned with top end than low end grunt this time round.
My initial thoughts are really leaning towards the BMW M6 6Spd manual. I hate to say that on here but with the right cosmetic upgrades, that car could looking outright nasty. I miss driving the manual tranny and this is the only car that has that option. As for the other three, each one is so different that I am not even sure where to start although I am leaning towards the E63.
It seems like with longtubes, pulley, tune and 3.91 diff, the M6 might have the top end adv. over all of them looking at vids on you tube. Anyone know if the SMG M6's are quicker than the manual versions? How is the SMG different to the MB tranny. Can you rev and dump the smg tranny like you can a 6 spd manual tranny?
The e63 and c63 would also receive long tubes, pulley, tune so they would also be NA stout monsters![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
Let me know if you guys have any experience owning these cars.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
The only thing I am wondering is - how are you going to get to Mexico from Atlanta - through Texas I would assume ?
I don't care much for the 6-Series car personally, but it seems you are leaning towards that and many I know that own either 645/650/m6 really like them a lot !!
Sorry I don't have much input but Good luck.....

If its a garage queen the M6 is great but no way would I get the 6 speed over the SMG. I dont know of one modded 6 speed beating an equally modded SMG. The shifts are so much faster than a human can. But if you are into rowing, then the 6 speed with the mods you mentioned would be great. The stock exhaust note is excellent but a simple axle back exhaust will change the sound to a symphony of F1 excellence!! And as you mentioned you want the up top speeds and the S85 engine is perfect for you. The US launch control is very tame on the S85 engine with the SMG but the car is not supposed to be a dig beast. Rolling runs from 30 on will yield solid results. But remember its an 8/10ths car or better meaning you have to drive it hard to enjoy it- the sweet spot is between 6k and 8k rpms so your gas mileage will suck but the engine response at these rpms is very very strong. The throttle response with an ECU upgrade is better than any car I have or had. BMW got that right!
My M6 was more of a daily so I walked away from it into the M3 with the DCT which I honestly like much better-not faster but just a better overall car for my needs.
I dont think there is a such thing as a 2007 CLS55 but if you can grab a 2006 with low miles that might be your sleeper. Its a beauty of a car and with some mods you will have good power down low and up top.
If you are going to do a 63- Id do the C63 over the E63- better chassis and suspension. You can get all kinds of info in the C63 forum; there are alot of guys running those cars fast with mods. I think they are faster than any of the E63's that are modded in the non nos format (correct if wrong please).
Of all the cars, I would choose none but instead find that low mile M6 with an SMG so you can destroy cars on the freeway and enjoy a high rev'ing instant gratification car. Its a bit laborious for a daily and in traffic but its a weekend screamer with an amazing sound. Its looks are subjective and usually its a love it or hate it opinion- I loved my beast but it went its course.

All my buddies with M6's test drove SMG and manual and all picked the SMG. The 6-speed is geared so wrong for the M5/6. Depending on what you're doing I would get the C63. Save some $$ on the initial purchase and have a much sportier car that has a lot less that can go wrong (Airmatic mostly)

I am glad you cleared up the SMG issue for me, I knew they were geared differently than the manual, so I will stay away from the manual. I will also stay away from the CLS since it is an 06 and I am looking at 07's and up.
I knew Vic55 would clean up me thoughts. All I have to do now is test drive the M6 and C63. I just threw the e63 in there since that car is so damn sexy, and would be a great cruiser and still be able to handle it business with some mods.

Oh the E is great. I love mine for what it does, but I'm tired of it for what it doesn't. I'm just going for a complete different car at the end of the year (P-car, Rossion, etc) It's a real shame one of the coolest options (Pano Roof) is so damn heavy. I'm sure an E with LT's tune and all those mods is close to mid or high 11's in the 1/4...
Hard to go really wrong with any of those cars...Happy hunting..

I would lean toward the C63 since you have previously owned an E class AMG. The M6 is fast, but I drove an E60 M5 and the SMG is annoying!
Speeding in Atl is costly with the new "super speeder" law tacking on another $200 to tickets.

Between the C63 and the W211 E63, you'll have to make the choice between having a bit more speed vs a bit more luxury. Both cars have the same engine and with the same mods, both cars will produce about the same amount of power, but the C63 is about 200 lbs lighter, so will be quicker/faster in the long run. With long-tubes + custom tune + air boxes, both cars should be able to hit 450 to 470 rwhp on the dyno. The E63, however, offers a LOT more luxurious interior (compared to the cheap "plastic" feel of the C63 interior), more comfortable ride, and of course more room. Ultimately, it all depends on what you are looking for.

for that particular car, that is what I wanted to spend, not what I could afford, there is a difference. I got a ppi and in the end it just did not work out. It was a very nice car though.

cornfed gtr and m3
I don't know that I could go from the e55 to the e63. No offense to the e63, but it is great to have the options for more power with the 55k motor. If you are looking for a weekend cruiser, the m6 with smg might be the ticket. It will feel slower compared to your modded e55, but still a fun car, and more importantly a whole different experience then the benz. I don't know that the high cost of the headers, 3.91 diff, etc for the s85 are worth it. Had all that on my M5, and while the sound was unreal, performance still wasn't what I would call breathtaking.

E55, Supercharged Z4 (sold)
How about an SL65? It's a bit more then an M6 but once you factor in headers and a diff it's about even price wise. A heat exchanger and tune with the 65 engine are beastly. No herky jerky SMG either, although I do think on WOT blasts and downshifts it's nice. Just couldn't deal with the jerkiness around town myself.
I can't imagine a better weekend car.
