The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I bought a (regular) E over a CLS because I liked the styling more, not to mention the extra efficiency you get out of the design.
It's as simple as this, if the CLS's design doesn't make you swoon over it, and force you to not even consider the E in the same stylistic league, then the E Class is the best choice. The design is more efficient, lighter, same chassis/build-quality (basically the same car), it will probably age better (more conservative and understated), and it's far more aerodynamic with a .27 C/D VS a .32 (although looks are deceiving in this case).
I'll just stare at both cars all the time, different angles and different days keep changing my feelings. Sometimes I feel it makes my car look like a Taxi, sometimes I feel like my car looks better. Two angles the W211 always beats the CLS in is the front end, and especially rear end, as the CLS IMO is weak in both those areas. Although the proportions are a bit too "Comic Book" style for my tastes, it's really hard to beat the CLS's side profile, that's where it usually hurts my soul when doing my "comparison view" VS the E.
Deposit in while awaiting some final negotiations!!!
Now, need summers - 19s or 20s? Ride comfort is very important and city streets are sh*t so prob 19s? Would pref AMG but may need to look at Vossens or something...
quote=K-A;4031328]It should be an easy choice, as the style of one should speak to you more-so than the style of the other.

My thought, the CLS over the E. I preferred the styling over the E, so that is what I got.
Sure it may be smaller in the back, but people sit back there just fine. I am 5'10'' and have no problem fitting in the car front or back. This is the rub, if you have to force yourself to pick something DO NOT buy it. You will regret it every time you look at it. You know what you want when you see it.
Go for the CLS if you are really in love with the looks, it's honestly the only reason to get it. It definitely has more "show" than the E class and it will definitely get noticed more often than the E. Even my girlfriend calls my car a grandpa car. In the CLS I always feel claustrophobic, whether I'm in the front or the back seat. My biggest problem with the cockpit is the placement of the mirror; no matter how I position my seat I need to bend over to see under the rear view mirror, IMO they should have placed the mirror on the dash, especially since there's never anyone sitting in the middle of the back.
The E class has seating for 5, it's lighter and it handles better. When I was picking my car it just seemed like the obvious choice for me, but that's because I wasn't in love with the looks of the CLS. Cars don't always need to make sense, sometimes it's just about love. Good luck, no matter what you'll be happy.
But trust me that the E63 actually handles pretty well, but with the stock rims. I've learned that the car handles way better then it feels. It doesn't give you the confident feeling of stiffer suspensions, but once you can get over that feeling, and trust the car's suspension, it does pretty well (be sure to get some sticky ultra performance summers with stiffer sidewalls and no squirm.) It'll be much more of a pig with big wheels.
btw, the AMG OEM wheels are made by Fuchs and are strong and well-built (esp compared to other OEM brands.)
