D Service Again? I just had it last year and I only have 29k on my car....

Does this make sense? I dont remember what was included last time, does anyone know what's all involved in the D Service and whether this is a regular yearly service or just when you reach certain mileage milestones?

I only have 29k miles so far, but the car is an 05

afaik, service is mileage and time based now on MBs. If you go to MBUSA's site you can download the mileage/time services. 10k, 20k, etc..

Do all E55s have the "real" FSS system (w/ the oil monitor sensor)?? Can you guys enter into the menu still w/ the W211s?

The letter designations are really for the shop, if you ask me. They allow the techs to figure how long each service should take and a list of what's done, etc.. Plus it considers usage, driving conditions, etc., to determine what should be done (esp with the oil monitor systems.)

iirc, a D service is an A with brake fluid, too.

It's either time (not mileage) or somebody didn't reset the car last time it was serviced.

my shop , states now its only A or B , A the small service and B the larger one with trans fluid and radiator flush, so every 10,000 miles roughly, it doesnt count time in the equation.

You're right, time isn't there in respect to the service reminder on the IC.

But we should be considering time ourselves (i.e., oil after one year even if it's under the mileage, etc..), imho.

I am in the camp that if you drive it and the oil is up to temp to burn off any water and other impurities. IE not really short trips. Time doesnt break down oil. it can sit for years. not that I would let it sit for years but not after 1 year just because. the synthetics are even better than old dino oil which is what this is really stated for. remember mobile is even suggesting 30,000 to 40,000 mile oil changes for the right vehicle and driving type.

I'm just going by what the manufacturers of synthetics (including M1) say. Plus I have to do what the maintenance manual for my car says because I'm still under warranty (2009 E63): Change the engine oil and oil filter every 10,000 miles or 1 year. That's direct from the MB maintenance booklet (page 14.)

Amsoil is also a Class IV PAO based synthetic (like M1) and here's what they say:

"Amsoil oils are fully synthetic oils that use PAO base stocks and the highest quality additives available. The high quality of Amsoil's products combined with the physical advantages enjoyed by all synthetic oils results in a motor oil that can protect your car's engine for a minimum of 12 months or 25,000 miles. Combine that with one of Amsoil's Absolute Efficiency oil filters, which can also be used for that same 12 months or 25,000 miles and you only have to change your oil once a year."

So, I do it once a year despite the mileage. btw, my car was sitting on the lot (a leftover 2009 E63) for close to a year before I bought it. MBUSA had the dealer change the oil for me free of charge. Of course, I realize the motor was barely used (driven just around the lot; not too good for it) and wasn't being driven enough.

Maybe the Mobil just wants to sell more oil aside form the already extended OCIs, and that's why they say they say one year..... In the meantime, due to warranty I'm changing every year.

sure while under warranty follow all the guidelines. but after wards do what you like. you did see where you stated Amsoil says
all synthetic oils results in a motor oil that can protect your car's engine for a minimum of 12 months or 25,000 miles. the key word is a minimum. not maximum.

the key word is minimum. not maximum. almost every new study shows good motor oil can last alot longer than we thought years ago as long as its taken care of. in the aerospace industry you send you oil for analysis not some arbitrary time. but it is cheap insurance if your worried. for now.

Yeah, although they only guarantee the oil's performance for one year. I'm not at all worried, but only for the warranty right now. I do UOAs on my Porsche, BMW, and the E63 (using Blackstone's kit and also sometimes with LN Engineering.) Oil has always been close to the TBNs of the virgin oil, so no problem. The dry sump of the P-car's motor takes 11 quarts.

I just don't see what the point of stretching it far without knowing (i.e., I can wait for two years, but what if the UOA shows TBNs that are bad? Then I've been running it on weak sauce for how long?) So far my UOAs have been fine but I'll just stick to one year and 10k, since (as you say) it's cheap insurance.
