tryin to find an answer

ok, I have searched and even posted int he Tire Forum with no luck.....
https://mbworld.org/forums/wheels-ti...stock-e55.html

Eventually I will have rear wheels up front so I can poss. rotate tires, but until then...whats the widest tire I can fit on the stock front rim without putting the car in jeopardy. Please don;t post the canned "the factory put on the stockj tire size because..." statement. If someone has successfully ran a wider tire let me know. If the stock size is it...then looks like I order stock size

easy Esh

I have seen 255 on the front and others have ran 285-295 on rear but some of this is related to what size rim and offset your running. otherwise on stock rims you can get away with 255 front 275 rears no problem. no way to run the front and rear the same size if you go max widths.

Wow. Enough Said.

To everyone else thanks for the information. I just want to fit the safest tire I can fit the front for now on the stock rim without causing a saftey issue for my 3 yr old or wife.

In the future I may try to pick up a set of rear rims and run them on the front. That's when I will see about running the same size tires all the way around so I can rotate them and try to have them wear a little more even. This last incident taught me to check the tires at least once a week! I used to race diesel trucks and drive lifted Jeeps so I can see the tire every time I walk near the vehicle......not so much on the 55
I do search on here a lot and have a friend here who owns a shop that I pester all the time about noises and maintenance items because a performance supercharged gas car is a lot different than a 7.3l powerstroke turbo motor , especially since I normally work on all my vehicles myself.

Thanks again for the POSITIVE responses....and ESH sorry someone tinkled in your cheerios this morning but hopefully you can help me out if I ever have other questions.

I'm not here to cause problems. Lighten up everyone. Just looking for my lost pimp cup, then I'll work on the juice.

Pimpjuice: please let us know how things go with wider tires. Also, if you do change wheels in the future, make sure the offsets will work with your wider tires. Good luck.

I have heard of an owner fitting 305 on the rear. i couldn't see them being tucked up in there. I'm running 275, with no rubbing issues, and my ride is lowered.

I really want to run other wheels...but right now is not a good time for us to spend money on something purely cosmetic. I just sold my diesel beast...the suburban is going up for sale and the motorcycle is also going up for sale.....that will bring us back to a 2 car family.. Then I need to buy the wife a new car so the merc can grow up more

i have been and will continue to search for wheel options on here....I either want something with a nice lip or concave....we shall see.

Thanks for the responses!

So is the size I need to look for 255/45ZR18 or do I need 255/40zR18?

This is for the front......I need to order soon!

The widest I've seen on E55 with stock rims was 295s and widest I've seen on CLS63 with stock performance package rims (19") was 305s (belonging to Juicee63)

Whatever we're tuning!
Point 1:
You really can't rotate MB's since there is so much negative camber in the rear and very little camber in the front. The rears will wear out the inside 1/2 of the tread much more quickly than the fronts.
Unless you rotate the tires when you change your oil and spark plugs at 3000k intervals! (inside joke)

Point 2:
Trying to run the rears in the front most likely will cause the tire to hit the steering knuckle. Why not give it a try and let us know?

You're concerned about being able to rotate your tires on your E55?

if you go with 255s you can run 255/40/18 , will be about the same tire size ht as stock. its ok to run the 255/45 but it will be a slight taller tire than stock. still should not rub but you will loose alittle suspension tightness due to tire flex. I would stick with 40s series or even a 35 if you like handling. fwiw.

Actually if you search a little...sorry...couldnt help myself

The rear will not rub anything with a 265 on it....several people on here are currently running that setup. Rotating was just an idea wince the tires I run last about 10k miles. It was jsut an idea...one I may still pursue. Good one on the every 3k....wasnt that the LET guy? I rear a lot of old threads on here, gets me in trouble with the wife sometimes...lol

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...mg-wheels.html

But on the camber issue.....if the rear wears out faster...why did my fronts go out on the inside 1/2" of the tires and the rears still look new? It may be my alignment is off that bad

Definitely an alignment issue.

Get the alignment done to factory specs unless you plan on going to the drag strip with the car. Take out 1-1.5 degrees of negative camber so you'll get more of the footprint of the tire if you plan on drag racing it.

Do they even have any drag strips in HI?

They sure do....they just open up really late The only reason I havent ordered the new tires yet is because I am trying to decide if I want to
1. find new rims
2. get my rims fixed
3. get new tires and save up for the bling she deserves and keep drag radials on the stockers!

What kind of bling are we talking about? Please don't bedazzle the ash tray.

I vote bling: a man can never have too many wristwatches. There's even a huge thread about it around here somewhere.

ZING!!!

Well that is the true question.....what I may end up doing if the cost is too much I will suffer with the curbed rims until I can get the rims I want...and no...no bedazzlin the ashtray.... just rims and maybe blacking out all the badges/moldings...then again I can get a pully first....
