The clutch was updated a couple times right?

Is there a notable difference in reliability between the different iterations of the clutch?

Luckily it's just the bearing that goes bad. For those who replaced the bearing, how long did it take the replace it? And how much of a PITA was it?

1.5 hours tops. It is easier to gain access to the clutch bolt by removing the radiator fan assembly, impact wrench the bolt, and a strap to hold the clutch. Comes off in a jiffy. Then press out bearing, clean it up,and press in a new bearing. I was planning on putting up a nice DIY with pics one of these days. Mine is holding up very well even with a 180mm pulley. My motor is no longer possessed by the marble demons which got very loud at times.

E55
Guys, I bought my bearing from this guy, shipping was fast, but make sure you ask for the E55 one as he is selling the bearing for C32 as well. It was $90 each for the E55 one when I bought them(I bought 3 just in case).

Hope this help.

So, playing dangerously...what about doing away with the clutch and going direct drive? Horrible idea?

Now, how come you say that you cannot go over 2k rpm w no supercharger belt - however if the supercharger shuts off because of the heat soak/lack of cooling, you can drive it like normal on the 5.0 liter naturally aspirated motor ??

Just curious

"won't rev over 2000rpm" ...........where have you got this infornation from? ................something else is wrong if the car is doing that.

It will not go into limp mode if you remove the SC belt, it will just rev alot slower whilst accelerating.

Remove your supercharger belt and try to take your car past 2k rpm. Perhaps your car will rev to 6k but mine will not go over 2k at all w/o the belt. It will not downshift either unless I manually downshift.
And since I put multiple cars on another C5 Z06 yesterday, I'm sure my car is running just fine-with belt on of course.

Nah, just buy yourself a bird like I did at Petsmart. They even have custom engine bay cages for them.

I agree that it is nothing to worry about. I would however, check your bearing from time to time to make sure it is in good shape.
