WOW to Mothers Products!! **PICS**
Over the weekend I bought some Mothers Quick Detailing Spray, and a 160g clay bar kit. Well after "claying" it for the first time in its life, I bet I will get better gas milage it;s so smooth. Lol, but seriously, I never thought my car would feel so smooth again, after 9 long years of service.
Now, on to the quick detailing kit. I thought the clay made a difference.. Now my car looks like a smooth and mirror finished Mercedes again. I literally sat and looked at it for an hour. the car was heavily soiled so it took me about 14 hours to COMPLETELY detail it (engine bay , interior, exterior, trunk, washed floor mats, cleaned trunk, oiled components.) I went through at least 100 Q-tips. Now i have a love for this beast they call the W211 again.
Thank you mothers.
EDIT!!: i goofed a little, heres what i used
Meguiars scratch X fine scratch and swirl remover-- I was actually very disappointed with this product, barely a difference at all.
Meguiars ultimate quik wax-- Very good product
Armorall original protectant-- Always used this, good results
Armorall extreme tire shine-- good stuff
and Mothers California Gold Showtime instant detailer-- THIS is good stuff, leaves a mirror like shine

Is this a Mothers™ sponsored thread? Mothers isn't considered that great of stuff tbh. It will get you by in a pinch but theres much better products out there. Check out www.autopia.org for some proper detailing stuff

i clay bar my rig about every third wash we have a bad dust issue here in the desert. and i think the maguiars clay and detail works ok for a that. i have used some surf city stuff and like it a lot for quick cleans. but i hate mothers products

No joke. Today, I spent 4 hours cleaning my girlfriend's 6 year old Camry. She drove off in my car (she came back with all sorts of awesome stuff so it was a fair trade)...and I went to work on hers. I swear the thing had never been deep cleaned. I started with Mother's Clay Bar kit...and holy crap. I'm pretty sure it was the only thing that would have worked...but OMG did it work. Her car is white so it made an instant difference...but Clay Bar + Deep Wax + Glaze/Seal... car looks amazing. This pic is just the Clay Bar stage - front door bar'd...back door not. And mind you, that back door had already been washed!
I so have to do mine again too.

Yeah, Mothers is ok in a pinch. As for a quick detailer, no rinse wash, and clay bar lube I use optimum no rinse. It comes concentrated and can be diluted for various purposes. More versatile and definitely cheaper, check it out it's good stuff.

Once or twice a year will do. But remember guys, claying your car completely removes any sealant/wax as well. So, make sure to polish (if necessary) and seal or wax afterwards. If you don't, your driving around with no paint protection at all.

Can't wait to see the pics but it would have been good to see the before and after. 14 hours cleaning the beast, that is a major detail. Any reason you let it go so long? Seems like everyone has their own products to promote, so I will throw my hat in the ring. I swear by Griots.
But I think for most of us, we barely let any dust hit our cars and we are out there cleaning it.
At least you know your car is sitting right since you did it yourself.
Only way to go to get the full satisfaction afterward. I'm dealing with Black so it is always in some stage of cleaning.
Enjoy the car.

I only planned on spending about 2-4 hours on it but then when i felt how great a feeling it was to run my hand over my car from the clay, i clayed it for about 3 or 4 hours straight. Then I washed it again with some light soap, towel dried it, then went on to the interior till it was completely dry. then clayed it again and started putting on coats of wax, buffing it for about a half hour in between coats. then i got picky earlier and q tiped it again. Its the best feeling in the world cruising during the sunset in a car thats never looked so good. Even got 2 compliments in parking lots of stores i frequent usually, just never with such a clean car. The camera doesn't do the cars look justice.
Hopefully the pics show up right this time.

Mother's has some very nice stuff, although some detail geeks swear you can buy better stuff ....I have used a bunch of products - Griots, Chemical Guys, Poor Boys, Meguiars, Zymol, BWD, etc....Each has its pros / cons...
One product I like a lot right now is Chemical Guys Ultra Blacklight (or something like that)....But I still want to add a really nice wax on top...

Seriously ??? How can the cost of wax be something you need to "save" for if you drive an AMG ??? If you really need to "save up" for a wax, I'd consider either sticking with the products you already own and/or selling the AMG.

I order most of my detailing stuff from here http://www.detailersdomain.com/, Phil is a vendor here and gives a discount for members.
I'm going to give this wax a shot once I am close to done with my current wax..

Phil @ DD is a great guy. "Adam's Polishes" Makes some great products that in most cases are fool proof in terms of using them without worrying about ruining the finish of your car.

Well if you must know everything about me, I am 17 and dont make bank every month like you apparently do. And when I want or need something i take a minute and say Hey wait a minute, I need plugs and wires in 2-300 miles, nows not a good time to spend money on whatever it may be. So what if I don;t have petty cash on hand all the time, at least I take care of my cars functionality more than its appearance. Sheesh
