It showed up today.

What info do you want off of it?

Now I'm looking at what I'm going to have to tear apart in my trunk to get to it. Grrrr. Lots of little plastic clips that always break it looks like.

Anyone do this themselves before?

yes , I have done this 3 times its really not that hard. clips are really easy small flat head screw driver works well. you will need to remove the plastic covers over the trunk arms. one clip is hidden on them down the back side. just take your time. the clip on the light is the hard part is better to come from the bottom on it. I will try and post some pics if you not in a hurry, I will take mine off it the part numbers match

what part number is on this piece.

Couldn't have been much easier to install:

1) Remove trunk lid arm covers (one push pin on each side, two clasps over the arms)
2) Remove lower lip cover (6 torx screws)
3) Disconnect trunk closure button
4) Remove push pins that hold the liner in place
5) Disconnect safety release button
6) Slide the trunk light back through the lining (no need to disconnect it)
7) Disconnect third brake light
8) Slide the brake light lock levers out and pull internal assembly in and away from lamp cover
9) Squeeze lamp cover retainers and push red plastic lamp cover out through hole
10) Reverse the process with the new third brake light assembly.

Took me 20 minutes total maybe.

So glad I didn't pay someone to do that.

Shipping was $19.42. Was supposed to be 5-7 days but showed up in two.

PM me and I'll ship you the old parts if you want to tinker with them.

I had NO problem with parts.com actually...just found it on line, bought it, and boom...here it was. Actually came from a Benz dealer in IL.

:-)

I just ordered a replacement as well. The left (driver's) side edge of the light cracked off. I also had a similar issue with one of the rear tail lights. The high stress areas in the plastic seem to have an issue on my '03.

If anyone needs the LEDs, please PM me. I am busy and may not get to my PMs until the weekend. Same deal - $10 takes it to cover shipping to lower 48 if you want to try your own repair.

if you create an account an proceed with the order they will give you a shipping quote before you put any payment info in. I have purchase a bunch of stuff from parts.com and although their shipping is a little high they parts are always cheaper then the dealer.

The w209 has this 3rd brake light problem also. I have replaced it 3 times in a few years. All parts from them are always 100% OEM. As long as you have a VIN they could find you any part. Just bought myself some CLK Black sway bars through them.

I purchased and installed on my car, works and looks great. Car is silver so it matches really well! I dont know how it would look on a darker car though.
