Need some help 80/82mm Throttle Body For e55

Hey guy's I have been getting mixed ideas on what will work. I have an 2005 e55 Longtube headers custom exhaust pulley, intercooler, pump, tunning. Im looking to add a throttle body now. Does anyone know the stock size? And is the 80 mm throttle body direct bolt on besides intake pipe? Also does the 550 82mm throttle bodies bolt up fairly easy with modified mounting? any help would be great. THANKS

Stock TB is 74mm. "80"mm TB is actually 78mm. You can get a 80mm sc inlet and the 80mm TB will bolt to it and get the 80mm y pipe. You need to switch pins for the 80mm TB since it opens in the opposite orientation in comparison to stock. 82mm requires an adapter, porting, and some massaging of the 80mm ypipe to work but no switching pins if you buy a MB TB. Hope that helps and good luck

You also need to port the sc inlet, don't forget that part.

Could you just buy a used 550 throttle body and Y-pipe and be good to go as far as hardware? Seems silly to buy a kit for $1,800 if it's that simple. I've even been considering doing a custom Y-pipe and intake setup but I'm not there yet.

Cool. Would you be so kind as to keep me informed when you find something out? I tend to lose track of my posts here and don't always follow up lol

No, you need to modify the sc inlet

I got that part too. I was thinking any machine shop or a good mechanic could do this. I just didn't know how involved it was. I have a lot of faith in my guy. I guess my question was, is this a part you have to buy. If you can just modify it fairly easily then that's what I was looking for.

I assume the Y-pipe is off the same S550 as well.

Is the part number for the MB 80mm plenum, or SC inlet

This for the OE MB 80mm ttb. If you are installing an 82, you would have to modify it in order to fit.

Im doing exactly this job right now.
Im installing an 82mm Audi TB, and waiting for this plenun.

I'll let you know how it goes when it finish

Hey how come you opted for an AUDI throttle body and not an 550 MB t/b? Just curious I have an MB 550 actuator plug and play. Need to get a spacer machined now and port the sc

Nope. The 550 is naturally aspirated and has an elbow that connects to the TB. No ypipe

bump, lots of good information here for this swap, and the information as to which cars have the 80mm stock TB would be beneficial for everyone.

I was referencing the 55k motors. You need a Y pipe from an 07 or 08 SL as well as the SC inlet from one in addition to the throttle body.

So, do any larger TBs fit without modifying the S/C inlet?
