Am I crazy for being paranoid about my girl hitting a pothole, and just going to town on my HREs....or hitting the accelerator and swerving and hitting someone on the freeway???

Maybe I am being crazy

No way would I let my in-laws nor my kids drive my car! I have to let my husband drive it because he paid for it. Of course, that doesn't mean I have to like it when he grabs the keys.

She drives it a couple times a year.. and that is when we HAD to take my car out, and I drank way to much.. and besides, since I am wasted on the ride home.. I am half out of it at 1-2-3-4am and I wouldn't know if she F(*(#*@*@ something up anyway LOL

My wife drives them all. They are only cars, right? I just tell her not to parallel park. I can not handle curb rash.

But it's only some wheels right??? Im kidding. I feel you, but when you have OCD like me, it would be hard for me to drive around with a giant divot in my wheels or a front lip looking like a shark bit it....I would have to get it fixed, and then that means spending more money, and then that means bumming rides off people while I wait for my car to get fixed, then that means Im taking a cab to the Honda dealership and buying something i dont care about someone thrashing....

My wife drives the SL from time to time. She drove it from Indy to the Chicago area (about a 4 hour drive) and waited all day while the EC boys did a dyno tune. I figured the eight hour round trip would wear her out. The only comment she had was ECs restrooms were not quite up to a ladies standard.

+1 on the curb rash. That's bout the only thing you have to worry about. Also tell her to watch punching it on corners/on and off ramps and you'll be fine. Wifey drives mine all the time but she did curb it already.

Pretty cool when she gives me kill stories.

+2 on curb rash tendencies with the wifey...her C300 is a multiple victim to her inability to guage curb proximity. So her time behind the wheel on the E55 and SL65 is limited to...never. I'd have to be incoherent or unconcious for her to get near my keys.

Plus, newbies to the power of an AMG engine (let alone a modified 55 and 65) could prove disastrous...over correction can prove hazardous.

+3. The girly can drive it but she's scared of it. I love to let the "good" kids that work for me take the car to lunch or some of them that are really close take their girls out or something in it. Keeps em loyal and it puts a smile on my face that they almost get more joy out of the car then I do just taking it around the block.

But I agree 100%... curb rash I cannot deal with so there are very strict rules that go along with taking it out. That being said it is just a car and I would highly doubt someone could drive it harder than I do.

Sometimes it's not just curb rashes.... if they park it in tight spots at the grocery store or next to a an SUV or a truck with huge doors, you may end up with door dings, paint scratches, etc...

This very subject came up recently - my wife asks "why so many rules with the car?"

Me (quoting a college professor) "rules are only necessary when societal norms fail".

Her "That's stupid.".

Me: "how about this. . . curb the wheels and I'm grabbing your favorite Gucci and your favorite pair of shoes and I'm grinding them against the curb".

silence.

Women are hard on cars....this is not a sexist or being an A-hole, it is a fact. To them cars are just a way of getting from point A to B, women have a tough time understanding why guys are so obsessed with the automobile and lots of jealousy how an inanimate object can rank so highly to us.....

My last fiancée drove our brand new Lexus IS (2 months old) hit the curb and crashed into into a transformer as she was driving and filling out a Birthday card at the same time!!! That car written off and we had to pay for a brand new transformer.

My current girlfriend drove her brand new 335i Cabrio through a flower bed after hitting curb as she was talking on the cell phone and trying to enter the combination at the drive-up kiosk to a gated neighborhood....wrecked the driver's door and the door mirror.

I have more stories!

Maybe your girlfriends are just bad drivers. I haven't ever wrecked a car.
