I said the same thing when I first got my car. Now....coil over kit with higher than normal spring rates, under chassis bracing, k-member brace, strut tower brace, sway bar mod, ball joint mod....like a new car now!!

This morning, I had this weird vibration, that I just wouldn't figure out where it was coming from. But it felt like is was in the rear end. I was driving to work at 50 MPH, when I slowed down at traffic light, by downshifting and then accelerated the issue went away....weird. But I will say, that on very cold mornings my wheels feel like there square instead of round, but when they warm up all is normal again.

Wheels Wheels Wheels

Been ages and yes still have the beast - only 25500 miles from new.

So this vibration thing driving me nuts - now more pronounced at 70-90mph ... so I jacked the rear end put the car in dyno and got a sense of what it was like siting still.

Well its worse when up in the air than when the car is on the tarmac for one and was not brave enough to get someone to apply throttle so I could visualise the vibration.

Took rear wheels off and vibration all but gone. So either it's a small vibration from driveline being amplified by wheels - or its wheels. My bet is wheels.

I also have the Quaife diff so mbe that install did not go 100% when I refitted diff - as I just bolted it up - apparently there is an alignment procedure to follow? "Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? .... Bueller???"

With wheels on I wasn't brave enough to go over 90 as she was bucking quite bad although could not see anything obvious at the wheels. With wheels off I was up to 140 or so and practically nothing, no chassis drama at all.

I have 275/30 19 PSS (now 7 years old though and 5mm of tread depth - do these have a shelf life?) on AMG Style IV splits so will have them re-balanced - don't think I need road force balancing as the wheels were "floating" when I tested them today and a regular balancing should do it hopefully.

I'll let you know how I get on. But I think this is quite a good method to isolate wheel vibrations from driveline.

Cheers
Steve

Right out of the gate with any vibration "at speed" you should balance the wheels. And you are saying the tires are 7 years old so with out a doubt rebalance them than try another road test....I bet it will be gone.

Forget rebalancing 7 year old tires, just replace them all together. And I would bet your vibration issue will disappear. But that’s just my opinion.

I'm thinking Goodyear Eagle's - no need to splash out for Mich PSS-

Goodyears about half the cost here...

Rubber is a wear item. Whether that rubber is in the tire, or the suspension bushings, or the steering system. Its rubber and will either "Wear" out or "age" out.

Tires - 4 yrs TOPS. More like 3

Rubber suspension pieces isolate with the physics of the rubber medium. Time passes and wear happens and that medium is different - more vibrations at different frequencies.

Featured snippet from the web

The fact is that all tires have an expiration date. ... Every tire has a birth date—the day it was manufactured—and an expiration date that is six years from that manufacture date. Most automobile manufacturers warn drivers to replace vehicle tires after six years.

6 years is just too much unless you are just putting them on to hoon.

Rears balanced. No change really slight improvement
New rears, slightly better not great tho.
4 wheel road force balancing and sorted.

I think the vibration was from the front all along just there was nothing felt in the wheel at all - mainly the chassis.

You learn every day.
