The plugs are NGK ILZKAR7A10. They are extended service (longlife NGKs) meaning MB says change at 80k.
8 plugs but still time consuming.

The tune ups are no joke I work at a dealer and at emp price I paid 260 just for the plugs which easily retail for double that plus install. These prices seem in line I also had to replace all my plug wires which is even more of a nightmare. The only thing that saved me was not having to pay for install.

E63 P30, CL500 Sport
The E63 is a single spark ignition. The E63 motor was built from the ground up. The 55 was based on earlier dual ignition motors with a SC added.

Hmmm, I don't know. I thought it didn't matter so much these days especially with fuel injected motors. Not like the old days when you would switch plugs for everyday driving and high performance driving.
As long as you don't get knocking or pre-ignition, then the stock temp should be fine. There's no real heat reduction gains with switching plugs, it's primarily to reduce any possible pre-ignition, right?
I'm assuming the OEM temp is a compromise that has to do primarily with emissions issues. And with extended service of the plugs (less fouling, etc..)
What do you think?

Depends on the age and mileage...I err on the cautious side and changed my plugs at 40k. Of course that was before I knew my intake gasket was leaking air and causing misfires...

it makes sense to change them at the same time - if you plan on changing them --- of course its not essential to replace the wires too -- unless they are really toast or you strain them trying to pull them off the plugs -- which some people do when they are in too big of a hurry -- dont yank the wires!!!
