2007/2008/2009 e63 differences

SO I am beginning to look around at some e63s in the 40-50k price range. What are the differences between them except the hard drive based navigation in the 2009? Do all the e63s come with Premium Sound with the P2 package?

All in all the cars are the same. The engines are identical so it really is miles, warranty, and equipment. If the miles are right, the 07 is the best value. You will find that the cars are about $10K apart, $42, 52, 62 and that is about the wholesale price for decent metal. I had an 07 and now an 09, the overall electronics are nicer in the 09. Don't expect a Japanese equivalent navi. The 08 is identical to the 07 so don't go there, most dealers want a premium for the 08 but resist that. If you have the bucks, go for an '09 CPO. One last thing, the 09 seems to ride smoother and the transmission shifts better and goes into first gear without so much jerking.

thanks alot sak. Good info. So do you think the ride is worth the premium for the 09? Are you glad you did it and what made you trade your 07 in for a 09? My thinking is to keep the car for 2 years and then grab a 2010 when it gets into the 50s.

Slow/Slower/Slowest that was for my boy "citylightva"

comment not to be taken seriously, it's just a joke between a few 55 & 63 owners.

My 07 was a lease return and MB Financial was not willing to sell the car for a good price. I am happy with the 09 and definitely like silver vs the black 07. One option is to trade for the twin turbo E63 once the price shock of that new car is over.

You can still purchase a new 09 for around $70k (see the white 09 on ebay with 19 miles) That car is loaded with illuminated door sills. Pull the trigger on that one and you should be happy for several years, including a fresh warranty.

If you don't find a new 09 that you like, get a used 09 with CPO. Anyway you go, this car is nice and fast and enjoyable.

+1 on the '09 if you can swing it over the previous versions. Tranny is much smoother than the earlier ones, and COMAND is much better, with good VC. With the 2009 all the bugs have been worked out.

Yeah, the 55 is way better for mods and the dragstrip. But the 63 has a lot better handling than the 55 (and the steering isn't nearly as sloppy feeling.) Put some good tires on it (like PS2s) and it will surprise you. It's the choice for a more comfortable daily driver if modding isn't on your plate, imho.

The 63's n/a motor can't really be be tuned for any reasonable amount of $$, but it's smooth and sounds nice; not like a screeching cat riding a vacuum cleaner

I have a very late model 2007 E63 and never had any problems with tranny shifting or smoothness of the car Mine was made on the very last week of production for 2007 models.

Regarding the TCU software versions, there were 4 updates to the 2007 TCU and the best one was the one before last: release date March of 2008. My tech and I measured shifting on this update versus the other three and it indeed performed quicker/firmer shifts and felt best.

There were no updates for 2008 model TCU so I assume it came with update from 2007.

There is only one TCU software version for the 2009 with 1 update. I've tried both of them on my car, and both the base version and the update shifted softer/slower than the 2007. I may not sure why Mercedes went this route on an AMG when all of us have been pushing for quicker/faster shifts in our cars My tech thinks that it was because people may have been complaining that the shifts were too quick or not smooth/soft enough, etc... for them, so Mercedes smoothed them out even more on the E-Class

If you have a 2009 and want quicker/firmer shifts, try to get update 3 from 2007 TCU, it is AWESOME

Don't worry too much about that part. If the car is under warranty (Factory or Chrysler) just take it in to the dealer and tell them it's acting up. Find a cool tech and get him to replace it with parts from the '09.

OP, where are you located? If in L.A area, just contact me.

I'm in Dallas, Texas, beast. I am thinking the 2007. I still have 11 months on my Jaguar XF-SC lease but am looking.....

Thanks for all the input guys. Do all the 2007-2009 come with the "premium sound"? I know that was an option I had to pay extra for with my wife's 2007 BMW X5

autotrader. I looked at a e63 they had at the Fort Worth Mercedes today. It had 17k mikes and was 59k. It was a white 2008, but couldn't get over the ugly *** brown cashmere interior. I went to UT, but that brown was ugly. It was like a neon brown. Brown everywhere. Even the wood trim.

Yeah I know...I HATE the brown/tan/gross skin looking interior color...I gotta say in a year/10 months the 09's might be a bit less and that's what I would go for. Comand in the 07-08 sucks...I don't think I've used my nav for anything...Google maps points my way...They do all have "premium sound" and it's a very nice system...I'm taking mine down to Motorsports Ranch again on the 5th...I love tracking Miss Piggy
