2012 US F1 GP in Austin Texas
So apparently the 2012 US F1 GP is going to be Austin Texas. I know this is kind of early but is anyone else excited? I hope Bernie doesnot do anything foolish which leads to the cancellation of the US GP in Austin.

Well with Austin joining the Arizona boycott, I am sure they will have plenty of aliens there to build the track and keep it clean. Gancho'em Cuernos.

I'm incredibly excited about the F1 races and an F1 caliber facility so close. I'm sure there will be test and tune days along with SCCA, NASA, and even kart races on it. I can't wait.

Im super excited too!!.. Im a huge F1 fan, Im actually going to Montreal in 16 days for the Canadian GP...(yes Im counting down..haha)
I went to the F1 race in Indy twice and words can not describe how happy Im that they are building the track specifically for F1 b/c the ghetto fitted F1 track at the Nascar oval was very crappy.

I hope so!!.. but probably won't happen this year. The car's performace is not good enough and he is still getting use to all the technology changes that happen to the cars after he retired... but next year if they provide him a car that has the pace than yes I know he would put that car on the podium.

IMO it should be at Road America, Miller or Barber, any other choice is a foolish choice, but then again we are talking about Bernie...he must have like the titty bar scene in Texas (I can't blame him) , the toothless women in Alabama took Barber out of the running, there are no titty bars in Salt Lake City, nix Miller, Wisconsin has quite a few titty bars to choose from but since most of the women are more masculine than Bernie he took Road America off the list. They should have run it down Las Vegas Blvd, Flamingo down to Industrial, they put all the garages on Industrial and Dirty Bernie could hold the Drivers meeting at Cheetahs or the Rhino.

Do we really want to lose F1 forever? Indy was enough of experience, NYC is a huge tourists attraction, never heard about Austin as being number 1 city to live, so don't see how can F1 will able to surive at Austin. Sounds to me like it is usf1, a lot of hype, never came true

Great News!
My wife is from Chicago and we recently spent 5 yrs in NYC before moving to Austin. We've never met anyone in Chicago or NYC who doesn't know Austin...especially if they like live music.

There's no place in the US that will support a F1 race long term other than Indy.
In three years the track owners in Austin will be pleading with the city to raise taxes to help fund the race because they're losing so much money. F1 has already tried Vegas, California (the Glen and Long Beach), Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix, and none of those places drew a big enough crowd to support the race.
Whether you liked the track or not, Indy is a world class facility that (I think) set the F1 attendance record it's 1st year. Then you had the tire situation, which was the biggest joke in motorsports history. Unfortunately, there's not a place in the US big enough for Bernie's ego.

Sounds like maybe a premature announcement.
There was talk about using the Monticello Motor Club facilities in New York:

excited YES, but Austin, really austin
the thrill of F1 is ripping through streets that are used on a daily basis, which makes monaco the number one event each year
imagine shumy chasing alanso down the west side high way and barreling up through time sq ... ohhhh man -- someday americans will catch on
either way i will be there to celebrate -- hopefully grab a few blonds from the local university -- well make the party a party

But the reality of F1 history is that out of 68 venues, only 16 have been street circuits.

that argument is used against me every time i reference Monaco
... less than a 3rd of the events are held on the street ... yep you got me
but seriously ... how nice would it be to have an event through the streets of nyc every year?
crazy americans ... missed the boat ... F1 and Futbol ...
