I went to the F1 race in Indy twice and words can not describe how happy Im that they are building the track specifically for F1 b/c the ghetto fitted F1 track at the Nascar oval was very crappy.

My wife is from Chicago and we recently spent 5 yrs in NYC before moving to Austin. We've never met anyone in Chicago or NYC who doesn't know Austin...especially if they like live music.
In three years the track owners in Austin will be pleading with the city to raise taxes to help fund the race because they're losing so much money. F1 has already tried Vegas, California (the Glen and Long Beach), Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix, and none of those places drew a big enough crowd to support the race.
Whether you liked the track or not, Indy is a world class facility that (I think) set the F1 attendance record it's 1st year. Then you had the tire situation, which was the biggest joke in motorsports history. Unfortunately, there's not a place in the US big enough for Bernie's ego.

Sounds like maybe a premature announcement.
There was talk about using the Monticello Motor Club facilities in New York:

the thrill of F1 is ripping through streets that are used on a daily basis, which makes monaco the number one event each year
imagine shumy chasing alanso down the west side high way and barreling up through time sq ... ohhhh man -- someday americans will catch on
either way i will be there to celebrate -- hopefully grab a few blonds from the local university -- well make the party a party

But the reality of F1 history is that out of 68 venues, only 16 have been street circuits.
... less than a 3rd of the events are held on the street ... yep you got me
but seriously ... how nice would it be to have an event through the streets of nyc every year?
crazy americans ... missed the boat ... F1 and Futbol ...
