I purchased my '03 E55 used and it doen't have the ash tray in the center compartment as my wife's 09 E-350 does.

Did E55s come with an center ash tray? I have a small rubber mat on the bottom of the compartment that my wife's car doesn't have.

 

I think the rubber mat is in to keep coins from making noise but can be removed for use as an ash tray. Just a guess.

 

i will trade you my ashtray. yours should have an insert instead of the ashtray. take a pic and I will too.

 

Check the trunk, the previous owner might have left the ashtray in there. The mat you have is so people can use the ashtray as a storage area, that's what I have in my car.

 

I wouldn't mind having the mat. I hate when the coins make noise in the ash tray

 

Careful changing ashtrays! I bought a used one becuase the lid on mine had a crack in the finish. It was from an 05 or 06 I think, but later than my 03, and the ashtray did not fit because there was a very slight change in some of the plastic molding on the bottom of it. Took me forver to find this.

I ended up just swapping the lids, which is simple enough. Still have the other one if anyone wants it.
