I know, I know.....last minute.
But, tonight is supposed to be relatively cool, like last night. Last time I was there, track prep was more than adequate. I think I'm gonna bracket race this dune buggy too!
If I can find some people to go, I'll head up. But I don't think I can be around that many rednecks by myself. It's just not safe for someone that looks like me.

I might come finish off these bald drag radials since my new ones come in next week. Legal racing is always fun, even if there is no traction and use half your pad life trying to save your own life lol. What time you going? I don't think I will go til later on. Nothing like the worst track in town with some rednecks wondering what kind of domestic motor you dropped in a benz

Prep was fine for me last time, but I'm not putting down the powah that you are. Yeah, the shutdown area is a bit short, but I just ran it down until the last turn around spot and was fine.
You're gonna want to head up kinda early. 4th July traffic heading north on 270 will be no joke.
You wanna bracket race or TNT? I think I"m gonna bracket her tonight, efff it.

I'm going to be running on bald drag radials, I spin them hard at 40 on the street yesterday lol. I'm just going to hang out and have some legal speed fix. Not worried about track prep.

Motorkas is gonna head up with me. I think we're gonna meet up and roll in together, playing loud German polka music. You still have my cell, right?

Yes sir - it's about time I do this - great way to break into the scene. Funny thing is - now I'm pissed about switching out the forgestars (for the lighter weight advantage) - My goal for the day is mid to low 12's - then will see what happens. . .
Love the sig pic (it's about time) - your car looks SICK - maybe be reaching out to you about the spacers - just put the rears on and the fronts need to come out more. . .

I can tell you right now we aren't going to be running any stellar times tonight. Bad track and bad DA = bad times. But it will still be fun I will be lucky to even run a 11.5 on these bald drag radials lol And I dont feel like swapping wheels at the track to the bias ply and skinnies. Maybe I will test out the ice res tonight! No ice vs ice!

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
75 AND 80 DRAGWAY. Lots and lots of memories from that place in the early 60's. Didn't think it was still open.
You think the rednecks are bad now? Should have seen it in 1963! Made my first pass down a drag strip at 75 & 80 in my 327 powered Chevy II.
Memories.

Prep wasn't too bad. I only came unglued twice out of 10 runs. But then again, I'm very bad ***.

Thanks for helping me keep it in perspective I'm really looking forward to just getting down the track for the first time. I guess a better way of putting it was that my first time better not be my fastest
LOCO, remember, they kill people in your wifes country for scoring "own goals" I can't imagine what happens when a husband cancels dinner

RE: 75-80
+ 1. You think the rednecks are bad now? Should have seen it in 1985. Made my first pass down the strip at 75 & 80 in my 85 305 TPI powered Chevy IROCZ. Eventually got it into the mid 14's. Agree that track prep was so/so some of the time.
I'm a little jealous as I have not been able to get to a track this year....yet. Between kids soccer, ice skating, drama class, and the wife's neighborhood swim team...no time left. My closest track is an hour away.
Have fun and post up some times.

Quick updates -
BOR - consistently ripping off 11.4's-5's (was eliminated from bracket for going too fast)
I ran 12.6 as my best (BOR on the last run driving my car ran a 12.2)
BB (and the reason why he's last) ran a 10.9 on the first (and I believe his only) run but this was the car who ran against him . . .
I'll let BB fill in the details (he is healthy and fine and his car only has some small scratches).
Here's some other quick pics

I've got good news, great news, and bad news.
Good news - BT is hooked on drag racing and his car felt strong to me, albeit with a bit of a lazy 2-3 shift. I was able to cut a 1.79 60' on his all season tires, so his car definitely can benefit from some light wheels and DRs.
Great news - Ahmad is alive and well. As BT said, we'll let him fill in the details, as you can imagine, his nerves were shot.
Bad news - I got eliminated in bracket racing by breaking out by .01 seconds. It's actually Ahmad's fault. He was one of the last TNT cars to run, so the clean up after the wreck to quite a while. By the time my group ran, the temp dropped a lot as the sun began to set. As I blew passed the IROC I was racing, I slammed on my brakes but it was too late. **sigh**
Now, the P.A. announcer was having a little bit of fun with us. My first run was greeted with "Didn't someone tell him not to race mommy's Mercedes?" By the time I reached the 330' mark, it changed to "Holy SH!IT, that Mercedes is quick". BT informed me that my car got an applause.
As Ahmad reached the track for my second run he heard "Here's Clayton D in his lightning quick Mercedes..." I guess some respect was earned.
Then when Ahmad ran, it was again "What the hell, is this Mercedes night?" Followed by "Jesus Christ, that car is fast" He ripped off a 10.97....
All in all, it was a fun time. I think I had a legitimate shot at winning the whole thing, as I was pretty consistent. Once the temp dropped, I miscalculated my ET, but that's racing folks.
