CF lip woes...

Well...Friday night I finally got around to installing my CF lip & diffuser.

Installation wasn't too bad and everything looked great (the front lip especially).

Alas...that good looking lip lasted 4 days. Just cracked it on a curb at the bank. Uggggggh. Horrible crunch and crumbled right in the center. Grrrrr.

So I'll be taking it off tonight and doubt I'll replace it with another cf lip.

Does anyone make polyurethane or flexible lip for our cars? I had a great one on an old RX-7 R1 I had that was able to endure minor curb/parking stop collisions.

All I see on his site are CF lips. I'm hesitant to get another one because they crack so easily.

OUCH! That sux man. I would of cried! I have had mine on for a little over a month with no problems (Knock on wood). I forced myself to get used to backing into parking spots a couple weeks before I bought the lip in preparation..lol

It's not really the LIP's fault that you hit a curb with it. A urethane one will do the same thing, if you're the type who drives by feel.

Yeah...it was literally a milli-second type of situation...

I had pulled into the spot and stopped and then was like, "Well...I'll pull forward just a little bit more" and as soon as I lifted off the brake my mind remembered the lip and that thought was followed instantly by the crunch of my lip.

Uggh.

Of course it's not the lips fault. I'm not blaming the lip...I'm blaming myself...and I know I'll do it again. Or some valet will at some point (I live in Atlanta where everything from the mall to the airport has valet...and as much as I try to ALWAYS self park, they get a hold of the car every now and then).

Guess I may just fore-go having a lip. But damn it looks great.

When I got my first scratch on my lip, I went ape *****. Then I realized it was bound to happen with how low my car is. So I bought another one as back up. My front lip is tore up from daily driving and some track time but I don't mind anymore, adds character.

I'm sure I'll get around to putting the other one when I feel like I'm taming down.

Any lip will crack if you run it into a curb lol. Even your car bumper will crack if you run it hard enough.

I literally kissed the curb. OK. A little more than a kiss...but not much.

Pulled it off and its in two pieces in the trash now. The good thing is the ds tape and 4 screws had that puppy on there REALLY good.

$260 shipped is what I paid ... I'll probably hit up Gary again when I feel like cracking - I mean - installing another. Grrr.

No worries man, I've gone through 2 Euroteck lips and they ain't cheap... One done by a dealer and one very recently by my lady friend. At least it's not $600-$700 a pop you're lookin' at.

Get another one. 55k's just don't look right without em.

Tgoss - thanks - kind of what I was hoping to hear.

My lady friend is scared to drive the car as it is...and then she saw the lip in the garage in two pieces and asked, "Did YOU do that? There's no WAY I'm ever driving your car - if I did that you'd totally dump me." I wouldn't...but I'm glad she thinks like that.

Damn, I have a Euroteck lip also but don't think I could spend that $$ again for a back-up. Guess I'm going to have to get a cheap one JIC

Hey look on the bright side, atleast you have options. Euroteck is the only company that makes a CF lip for the 215. W/ that said though I've had it on the car over a year and never have any problems, even on NJ/NYC roads and obstacles. Just stay away from those parking blocks and you'll be fine.

Get another and just be more careful.

When I initially lowered my NSX and put a carbon fiber lip in there I destroyed it, and with the replacement I was simply more careful about how I drove and was fine. Just try being more aware of parking curbs and inclines into parking lots and enjoy the lip. My first one lasted a matter of days too. Lesson was learned.

I decided to pass up my normal parking spot for a closer one. I don't know why I didn't follow my own rule of always backing into a spot...As soon as I heard the dreaded "CRUNCH" I stopped and reversed. At this point I started to sweat thinking about the horror I was about to see...To my surprise absolutely nothing happened to the lip. Not a scratch, not even a dent. Now I'm glad I went with the Euroteck lip and not a cheap one!
