Interior, when will they get it?

Here is a pic of a 2011 Chevy Z06 beast of a maniac hot rod cars poor excuse for an interior.

Below is the interior of a 2008 Mercedes Benz SL 63.

Why doesn't someone write Chevy and tell them they're missing out??

Huge price difference.

Can't expect GM to put much development $$ into nice interior design at that price point.

Plus the people wanting a Z06 aren't so much into the finer details like that. They just want a Corvette that makes smokey tires.

+1

At nearly double the price, the SL63 has both the resources to have a nicer interior, and the customers to demand it.

The GM forums I visit are filled with guys who are only concerned about the engine & acceleration. They make excuses for the interior repeatedly. Plus with GM's out of control union costs sap up a large portion of each vehicle's production cost. A $80k vehicle ends up with a $40k interior.

American cars are usually have crappy interiors filled with lots o plastic lol. Nothing too appealing and quite bland is the norm.

If GM offered the Vette with paint cans as seats, Vette owners would not care provided they can smoke 'em. That stated the interior though lacking is adequate for most, not bad-just OK. The outside of the car is plastic, why not have a matching interior? LOL

Whoa, I just noticed that is the Carbon edition $$$. I love the fact that that steering wheel is in everything from a Cobalt to Malibu to Equinox to Corvette, would that have cost that much to change..?

iv had a couple vettes, compared to most the interiors that one looks pretty good ! lol. u cant compare a chevy to a benz interior.... two diff worlds. and price points.

In its defense i had a loaner c class the other day, and I had several people comment that the interior looked cheap , and similar to a honda. I had to agree I was not impressed. obviously a base model in benz defense

Hey, can we do a quick interior comparison? We always get our azzes handed to us on the AMG interior compared to Audi.

How would you rank the new AMG interior compared to the R8 interior?

I think we have come a long way eh?

SL63

Audi R8

I prefer the SL63 cabin over the Audi's. I like the SL dash's sweeping lines. The quilted leather adds to the appeal.

What's up w/that carbon fiber piece to the left of the steering wheel, blocking the door? Bracing? WTF.

Merc vs Audi, idk but i've always been a sucker for a dashboard with some sort of symmetrical layout and in that regard havent been such a hug huge fan of the audi interiors. I did like the A/S6 and A/S8 dash layouts with the elevated center consoles though from ~2006.

Symmetry, its all about symmetry. If you look, it has the same lines to the right of the steering wheel. like one big arch over the steering wheel from the door to center console.

Actually very nice as usual, but Benz's interiors have gotten much better and are still my favorite.

what a stupid thread. The SL63 costs twice what the Z06 does and weighs 1000lbs more.

Yeah but they's still no excuse for a 70-80,000.00 (GTR, Cayman, etc????) car to have that interior and seats that need to be immediately replaced (the funniest reason I've heard for the lack of lateral support - GM knows there customer base is. . .LARGE).

That being said - it'll be the first 2 door sports car I own (unless of course GTR's miraculously get sub 50,000) and new seats will be budgeted in the purchase price just like a warranty was with the 55.

I think you're all missing the point (and likely never owned a Corvette). As former C6 owner (twice) and a current 996TT owner, I have to say the C6 interior is pretty good. You can't ignore the difference in price between the Z06 and the SL63. Lots of money for interior.

I have actually owned two corvettes. I would easily be in another if not for the interior. Some people do actually care about the interior of their car. I'm actually not a fan of the 'style' of the 911 interior either, but it is quality which it should as you pointed out-price.

hell, get the 3lt interior or whatever its called with the leather covered dash and door panels, navigation, and the carbon junk.

Then replace the steering wheel for $600 and throw in a pair of cobra milano seats for $3k and the interior is pretty decent.

I HATE those stupid cheap plastic buttons to the right and left of the instrument cluster that have been in GM cars for decades. Cheap steering wheel.

And those radio buttons are awful.

I'm sorry, but even at 50k or 60k I expect a better looking interior that feels nice.

I get the symmetry part of the Audi's interior, but installing a carbon bridge between the console and the door, effectively blocking off your left hand from the window buttons and door pull (unless I'm seeing this incorrectly) in the name of symmetry makes as much sense as installing a 2nd steering wheel on the passenger dashboard.

Yep, that 'bridge' is whacked.

Either you want performance or a nice interior at that price. You won't get both.

Window buttons are easily accessible as is the door pull. I believe its the trunk/fuel door popper buttons that are hidden.

either way, its easy to get used to while you're driving. That said, if you're a wider gentleman, the bridge does limit cabin space.
