Loss of Power at 4000rpm
Hello All,
The beast has served me well the past 2 months but now Im running to couple issues . When I drive the car hard ,it runs good for the first couple minutes then all of the suddent the rpm cant get past 4000rpm . Look like it looses power right at 3500/4000rpm.
Also, I heard the s/c make small bird like whistle noise at moderate starts around 1500 to 2000rpm 1,2 gear with a very harsh kick engagement.
I did some research and aware of couple problems such as s/c clutch ,Intercooler malfunction. Some also mention these isssues to be common and normal!?!?
The car is under Chrysler warranty and thinking about taking to the dealer.
What do you guys recommend.
Any aftermarket fix for the intercooler ?
Thanks,

i have not had this problem -- but i know - everyone is going to tell you to check/replace your intercooler pump. I am sure that is going to be the 1st place to look -- and probably solve your problem

And the car simply will not go anywhere over 4k rpm? Not even at a snails pace?

I agree with Tal, you need to expand on the won't go past 4000rpm part. If the car literally won't go past 4000 rpm, then ic pump isn't your problem.

under normal driving . the engine revs with no issues. 1 st 2nd to 5th.
This only happen when going at higher speeds and pushing it hard with downshifts . Feels like the super charger just shuts down .The rev climbs but very very slowly...

check your oil gear also if it is not from the IC pump, i had this problem when my oil gear was low, it was doing the same thing as feeling loss of power.

Superchargers feed off of engine power and in turn produce more power. When at 4000 rpm, with a good working non-heat soaked S/C, it will climb quickly. When at 4000rpm, with the shut off S/C, the car will obviously climb slow due to the fact that it's missing at least 100+ hp, but still has to carry the same load.
As others have said, and if you haven't done so already, replace the pump. The pumps seem to be one of the best mods to keep that S/C going. For a fairly cheap cost, (of sub 200 from what I've read). If that doesn't solve the problem, it doesn't do anything else but help your car, and it's at least a starting point to figuring it out.

Talk about humiliation. Can you imagine that post on the Maxima forums.
Not sure if you have cooling mods but after you replace IC pump, time for a larger heat exchanger for you and to separate the systems. (last part is pretty easy)

lol
i meant gear box oil level. (Autonatic Transsmission Fluid level).
sorry, coz when my gear oil level was low ( i know there is no sensor, but checked it manually) the S/C used to shut off after one hard hit. ( so the gear wont wear off).
after filling it, everything came back to normal.

Well then just based on this... it sounds pretty straight forward, no?

You are resurrecting a 12 year old thread lol
But he/she is referring to the intercooler water pump, to keep the IATs low. Bosch 010 is the sensible solution, but there are more powerful options possible
