Supercharger Bearing

Sooo i am in orlando helping a new restaraunt open and i started my 55. Hear a clunky sound, open up the hood and noticed my supercharger bearing took a ****. My question is it alright to drive it to a shop?? It'll start up..

I think if you just take the SC Belt off you're good.

All when does these bearings usually go out on our rides (number of miles) or is this an uncommon thing?

Since I'm installing a 180MM pulley on mine will this acceleate the wear/failure of the the S/C bearing and if so by how much?

Thanks as always.

Alex

Depends on the season
Mine just got back from service for pulley snapping off (not supercharge, the other one the belt is attached to). Trans went into limp mode. Warranty paid for it. I drove with the belt off for a couple days. didnt do any damage by driving it that way. Just really slow lol. I have 45k on it

Just got mine back for the same fix under warranty. That fix got rid of the jolt I used to have during S/C engagement. Acceleration is buttery smooth now

Which did you get replaced? The whole clutch or just the bearing?

Did yours chirp too, or just rough engagement?

My rough engagement is starting to drive me crazy.

even with a new clutch, the harsh engagement will eventually return so don't expect too much...

Mine was pretty F'ed up. The jolts got progressively worse over time and each time I told my guys to look into it, they said all was fine until on a recent road trip, i heard a sort of ticking sound, popped the hood with the motor off and realized I could see the ball bearings and the grease had spun of and splattered all over the underside of the engine cover.
By progressively worse I mean 3 jerks around the 2k rpm mark. Dealer changed the whole clutch assembly. Been enjoying comfort mode ever since

BTW i've never heard a chirp the whole time even though I was actively listening for it. The only way I can tel the S/C is engaged now is the Oh so quiet whine.

I was called by my guy at Independent Mercedes, he advised me that the whole supercharger would be replaced thru my aftermarket warranty. Yay for me.

wow, sounds like someone is trying to make a buck in this economy! since it's just a pulley bearing you need and not an entirely new s/c, i'd make sure you follow all the new parts and your shop doesn't pocket $5k as a "bonus" by just replacing the clutch assembly!

just replace the bearing. Get it pressed out and press the new one in. Should cost $50 for a bearing and $20 to press it in.
