Wheel sizing help.

What is the widest tire I can run in the rear on a 20" wheel and still be able to lower the car and not rub? I am purchasing wheels and want to be sure they will clear and not rub, the wheels I'm buying currently have 295's in the rear. is that gonna be a problem? The rear rim is gonna be a 10" wheel.

I think you'd have to go less on the tire width. Offsets also matter.

What is the offset of the wheel? What is the sidewall ratio of the tires?

I have 285s on 20" and I could get 295s on there easy, and I am slammed. Offset will be the determining factor, but trust Bill. I suspect the wheels and tires will bolt right up and you are done. You won't get bigger than 295 unless you get a little wild

I'd be careful with 295's. It really depends on what your definition of "slammed" is, what offset your rim is, and what camber you're running in the rear.

I had 285's before, tire was slightly tucked, and did not rub on the outer fender. However, my car was low enough where I was rubbing on the inner fender well, and eventually blew out a tire on the freeway.

These are 285/25/20. The tire is tucked, and on driveways the rim disappears into fender well. No rubbing what-so-ever. I have about 3/8" inside fender well and more than 1/2" on the inner well, even when lower than shown.

I got these wheels the same place you are getting yours. Obviouly you will need to get the set up and put them on to be 100% sure, but my guess is that if Bill said they would fit.. they will. Sorry for cellphone picture. But you get the idea.

The clearance to be concerned with is clearance on compression. Also, tire brand affects clearance as some brands are more square than others

Thanks for the info tbone, I guess the true test will be when I get them and mount them on the car.

You're welcome. I guess the point I've been trying to make is that you will need spot-on specs (offset, camber, drop height) to fit a 295. 285's are the "standard" fitment on W211's. If you're set on 295's, PM Jangy. He ran 295's (on 18" rims), but he spent a lot of time figuring out the right offsets, etc.
