CLK55 AMG vs. SRT8 Jeep

This morning I got to run two of my dads cars against one another. We did one pull from 5mph-90mph. I was driving the AMG with 1/4 tank of gas and my dad weighs around 30lbs heavier than I do.

Now onto the run, I started the CLK off in SPORT mode but paddle shifted it down to 1st gear just to make sure I got a good launch. Honked it off three times and we are off, right off the bat the SRT8 jumped out 1 full car as my traction light lit up a couple times on the dash. The tranny shifted into 2nd gear, I lost about a foot and we stayed dead even all through second. As it shifted into third, I lost another foot and we stayed dead even until I shut it down around 90mph.

That Jeep pulls like a freight train I tell you so at the top of 3rd I was around 1.5 cars back. His car has bolts ons, including kooks long tube headers, offroad x pipe, and magnaflow catback. It also has a cold air intake and a custom dyno tune so it is dialed in perfectly. I wish I had got it on tape. Now to run the Jeep against the BEAST!!

I've surprised you didn't start gaining ground on the top end. I know what it feels like in the Jeep up to 145 or so and the aerodynamics of a brick don't help. I'd like to know how much of a difference the headers, x-pipe & CAI made though.

I had a run in with a Jeep SRT8 a while back... I was driving to the Bay Area and I had spotted him but didn't really care... He, however, did... He had the loudest mafunkin exhaust I've ever heard, and got next to me and kept speeding up and slowing down... I left it as is... Then there was a SL500 on the roadways as well and he got the SL to play... I dunno who won cause I wasn't close enough... Then the little "bug" inside me hit, and I sped up to him and gave him what he was asking for... No brainer, 55 killed him... With the exception of his loud *** exhaust, I have no idea what other mids he may have had... He had a passenger in the car recording the whole ordeal, but I doubt they'll ever post the video considering how bad I smoked it...

It was fun as hell. Putting the car in dyno mode would have just made it worse for the AMG. I would have started gaining I believe as the CLK was pulling freaking hard up top, I was amazed. Did not want to hit triple digits.

The SRT8 Jeep gets a nice jump from a low roll. I raced one from 5 mph and he got a car-length jump but when second gear hit the 6.2 pulled away pretty hard.

One of my closest friends has a cat back system and cold air intake on his 300C SRT8 and it is quick...I was very impressed and it sounds beautiful, we estimate his power close to 450ish hp. We have never run against each other..not yet.

I had a Jeep Srt8 for a few months, had Kooks long tubes, Corsa exhaust, Tune, CAI, etc. It was a beast to about 60mph, after that gearing and its size were too much for it to overcome. It was definitely fun to kill that thing from a dig though.

I think it really depends on the JEEP , mine pulls extremely well at speeds up to 130MPH . From a stop it's simply Impressive . Did race my buddy's 05 CLK55 and he only hangs dead even if we pull from a 100MPH to 130 , any lower speeds I'll pull him , I don't know what the specs and 1/4 numbers are on the 05 CLK55 tho .

The AWD helps the Jeep tremendously especially from a launch.

Only from a launch. At speed, it's a hindrance.

I traded in my 2008 Jeep SRT8 for a 2010 E63 AMG. The AWD gives the jeep a huge advantage off the line....but the weight slows it down once your up to speed.

The E63 dosen't launch as well as the Jeep but picks up speed fast and keeps pulling! Still trying to figure out how to get the best launch. Race Start is almost useless.

With the Jeep launching was effortless...stomp and go! If your going stoplight to stoplight, the Jeep is tough to beat.

A friend of a friend has one of these with a Vortech on it. Pretty damn quick in full street trim from what I hear!

Just came back from Mexico where I raced an SRT8 Jeep from a 10 mph roll. He got a quick jump so I was at his rear bumper but when we hit 55 mph the 63 started to pull until I got a car length between us up to 80 mph.
